My family rented a cabin in Murphy, NC for a week, so prior to a week of cabin life I would like to spend 4 days on the AT. Last year my husband and I did a 3 day hike from Springer Mountain to Neels Gap (~32 miles) and loved the trail. This year we would like to do a 4 day/3 night hike in either NC or Tennessee but can't decide where the best stretch would be. I see many posts about hiking GSMNP but I am not sure if everyone hikes that section because it is the prettiest or the easiest with planned shelters. I know it is extremely busy this time of year, luckily we will be hiking mid week and I have checked the shelters for GSMNP and they have availability however maybe hiking in Pisgah, Cherokee, or Nantahala National Forest would be a better section of the AT. We are looking at hiking 33-40 +/- miles pending elevation and other factors. Please advise!
