You are going too fast to grow an epic beard.

Did you see my FB photo at the halfway monument? Mine will never be as epic as yours though.

It was a bit emotional getting to the halfway point. It hit me that this is a finite trip with an end. Man I hate that!

Bummer. Turn around and go south? Hitch over to Glacier. Start the CDT SOBO? Grinning.
Good luck to you. You are certainly dialed in.

Hey, 10K! I just got shuttled by Jaywalker June 17 from Erwin to Asheville to fly home... she told me your trail name.
When you're home, I would REALLY like to ask you a bunch of questions. I'm thinking about sectioning the southernmost portion for 2 weeks commencing at Thanksgiving.
    Have a great hike!

Camped at the hat creek rim water cache. Caught up with WB member Garbanz yesterday. Going to pop into Burney and resupply tomorrow.

I wasn't aware of the Hat Creek Rim water cache and had taken water from the algae covered stock pond a couple of miles before it in 102 * temps. I had to chase the cattle out of it. It was some of the nastiest chunkiest foulest water I was planning on drinking on the entire PCT but that water cache was so surprisingly welcomed. That pond water was quickly replaced by the water cache water. Don't miss Burney Falls! To think it was almost developed and changed/destroyed had it not been for the generous and insightful visionary gift of the McArthurs. Several PCTers in 2008, because they were in that gotta go gotta go gotta be somewhere else out of the moment mindset, totally missed seeing this beautiful waterfall. There are some free campsites the park personnel directed me to just on the outskirts, less than 1/4 mile, from the Burney Park store and falls.

UGGGH, with these PCT, JMT, Yosemite, and Sequoia threads I'm feeling the need but I have work right now. Then, will see. Besides, I have the rest of the GET and AZT to hike first. But who knows maybe I can squeeze in a blitz Sierra or PCT section hike. Back to the CAD.

    Default In Idyllwild

In Burney for my first zero since Tahoe. 82 miles the last 3 days. Rocky Hat Creek Rim toasted my feet!

Chester, Drakesbad, Old Station, and now Burney. I'm going to get fat hiking the PCT!

First congratulations on making it halfway.

    You could always YoYo.

And if that wasn't enough you could always try to connect some trails together to get East back to TN.

A few more days and you leave all the hot stuff in the dust for good.

You don't leave the dust itself, though. That stuff doesn't go away until after Snoqualmie Pass.

I had hot temperatures the first couple of days in S. Oregon; especially just after leaving Ashland. It was worse then the last part of California. After that hot weather was no longer an issue. But it was also late August by then.
