    KR--

Finishing on your birthday would be sweet, but keep in mind that the weather in Baxter can be pretty horrible by the 14th of October; in fact, in recent years, Katahdin has been CLOSED to hikers by that date due to unsafe conditions. Your chances of running into bad weather in Baxter go up dramatically after the 7th or 8th of October.

If possible, I'd try to finish up a bit earlier in October, even if it means starting your hike a bit earlier and/or not planning to finish on your birthday. A 14 October finish would be fun for you, but it might be inadvisable.
