Bill Murphy - male, 32, Ann Arbor, MI
Start date: After Chicago St. Pat's Parade
    # in party: 1
Miles/day: Hoping to make 14-15 average, SLOW to start.
    Off day: When possible
    ETA Katahdin: before it closes
Reasons: (Stolen quotes from various others.)
    1) Great doubt, great awakening.
    2) To have days pass with the slow, majestic crawl of a summer in childhood.
    3) I hope to find more than I am going looking for.

(I'm actually flip-flopping with a mid-May start in Virginia, but I'll add myself to the list since eventually I'll be hiking with y'all)

Me: Scott, male, 33, central Illinois
Start date: May 20th, somewhere in Virginia, possibly near Roanoke
    # in party: 1
Miles per day: hopefully 18 or so
    Off days: not too often
    ETA Katahdin: mid-September (fingers crossed)
Reason: It seems like a good thing to do after finishing a zillion years in graduate school.

    Name: Daniel
    Location: Stockbridge (South Atlanta), GA
    Age: 21
Start: 2 days after graduation (Mid May)
    Number in party: 1
Miles per day: Mid to upper 20's (I have to finish before grad school starts)
Off day: Would love one a week, but not sure how it will fit the time table.
    ETA: 12-14 Weeks
Reason: You'd get tired of hearing them all, but seeing the sights, being alone (an introvert's dream come true), seeing if I can do it, and a heck of a story to tell to grandkids seem to top the list.

R I F (perfect timing) "reduction in force" at the work place. Just enough time to prepare physically and mentally for the AT. Has been a dream for several years.

    Default Nobo 2006

Name: No Chance (the odds my wife gives me of succeeding)
    Male, 48, Bethel, Ohio

    Start date: March 18
    # in party: 1
    Miles/day: whatever works

ETA Katahdin: when I get there (hoping for late Sept)

Reason: Many, many, many! Start with "I've wanted to for 35 years". Add in that I currently hate my job, but don't know what I want to do next. Need some mental relaxation and stress relief. It's mid-life crisis time. And six months hiking the AT beats six months at a fat farm or in a gym for losing weight and getting fit!!! There's more that I can't (or won't) put into words.

:banana March 1st, but looking for some help to start

Rick - male, 1, MA (but with others later for brief periods along the way)
Start date: I'm eyeing March 1st
    # in party: 1 (although I'd like to find someone to start with, if not finish with)
Miles/day: Likely around 8-10 early on, but hopefully a solid average of 15 throughout
Off day: hard to say till I hit the trail
    ETA Katahdin: 6 months
Reason: I'm going off to grad school in the fall, and I need some time to do something big (and something a bit nutty) before I go off on that final educational trek.

Default Starting around 01 May from Georgia

The whole Trail should take me 4-5 months, starting from GA. 50 or so years ago did the whole Trail from Maine, and almost gave up early. I'm glad I didn't, but now I have another 50 years under my belt. Starting 01 May, or as close as possible.
