I keep waiting for some more SOBOs to show up on the master list. I know we're a breed apart but...

Finally, after following Whiteblaze since February 2005 I have decided it's time to join in the fun! First of all I want to thank everyone who contributes to this amazing community. I've learned so much over the course of the last eight months and couldn't have progressed in my planning without it.

    Sara --- 28 NY
    Darrel --- 27 NY
Chela --- 4 1/2 year old chocolate lab NY
    Start Date --- 4/1/06
miles per day --- 10-15 (more when possible, less when necessary)
zero days --- 1 out of 7-10 days
Finish Line --- Some time in September
Why --- Hiking is our passion. It has brought us together as a couple and it keeps us sane! Life is too short and precious to put off our dreams any longer. We are taking the plunge, selling the house and quitting our jobs!

    mike mcgowan (KS_Rockstar) age 31
    start date early june
    # in party 1
miles per day 40 (im hoping to set the record for fastest un-aided through hike)
    off day none
why: peter palmer did it in 48 days in 1999 but that was aided (doesnt count in my book). even if im not trying to go fast, im gonna finish in around 60 days so i figured i might as well push a bit and see if i can set a record.

ps, does anybody know an exact number of days for the fastest un-aided south to north???

I've been thinking about the trail for quite a while now and if I'm going to commit, I need to commit to now. Is there anyone going NOBO from the Missoula, MT area?

    Default 2006 Thru Hike

    Grinds - 24, male
    Party: Possibly 2 (otherwise solo)
    From: Chicago, IL
    Start date: Mid-March
    Miles/Day- Early 8-10 Overall avg 15
    Off Day - Whenever needed
    ETA Katahdin - Mid Sept.
Reasons: It's always been a dream for me. I'm not sure if it's the right thing to do, now that I have a decent job, but what the hell, I'll take my chances. I'd rather survive by working for food anyway. Most importantly though, it's something for myself that I think people truly need. After spending a week in Virginia this year, I'm more excited than ever. Anyone from Chi-Town going?

    Start: 15 March
    # in Party: 1
    Miles/Day: depends on the day
Off Days: depends on the opportunity
    ETA Katahdin: August
Reason: I have a list, not just in my head, but written down of things to do before I venture into the world beyond. Most of the things on the list are crossed off, but not all of them. I have yet to sail across an ocean (wife ain't too cool with dat ) and I have yet to hike the AT (wife's cool with dat .)

    Trooper - Male, 35, Florida
Start Date - Mid March NoBo
    # In Party - Solo
Miles Per Day - 8 to 20??? We'll see lol
    Off Day - as needed
ETA Katahdin - When i get there, will HMOH
Reason - Whether to find myself, or lose myself, I do not know. I live with my brother that is paralyzed from the chest down, and have a healthy view on how short and hard life can be. I guess the most I can hope from my attempt is a revitalization of my life, and thru me, my brothers life as well.
