Interesting New Pack --Kelty PK 50

Happened onto this new Kelty pack. Its certainly interesting and intriguing, though I haven't yet formed an opinion..

Cool pack. I am a fan of integrated rain covers but still think I would prefer a more simple pack such as the Circuit but the Kelty seems quite versatile. Another plus, the less zippers the better.

its got lots of moving parts and exciting options to fit the need of nearly anyone. does it come with an instructional on how to use it? i see me misplacing gear in it daily. I like the ingenuity of this pack and can not wait to see it up close.

Nice concept. I like roll closures. On the downside there's a lot of fabric due to detachable bag, straps, and buckles, and weighs 3+ lbs.

Now I'm not poo pooing this pack, some neat design features...but my first thought is, I can unload my entire pack in probably less than 20 seconds if I was being timed and really wanted to prove a point.

Glad to see Kelty back in the innovative pack business. I would never watch the first Youtube video posted by that dude, too friggen weird. Nevertheless, the pack is sellling the Kelty 'extras' that being the pad the tent and the bag rather than the features of the pack.
Modular is nothing new, and how does it carry?

I too like the idea of roll tops. This bag seems like a nice melding of features, but too many features for my taste. Probably a better fit for approaches and alpine climbing. Given that I no longer climb (and hang in a hammock at night) I will pass.

I think they were doing a show at a Mohegan Sun Casino. If so, that's a wolf call in the background. I'm a pack nut, every new pack I see I have to get one. This one is no different. Maybe when is goes on sale in a couple of year

Looks like Kelty has been reading BPL.
Not in a spot to dig it up, but maybe someone here can if you don't have access-

Bout a year ago they reviewed a guy who had a very similiar concept but a little less feature intense. Basically an internal frame backpack frame with a "packless" system. A few pulls on some compression straps and you went from a 24l to a 60l pack in about a 2lb system.

Couldn't tell for sure, but Will Retfield (SP?) just did an article about using a single center stay in lieu of two to save weight and better preserve mobility. Not sure if Kelty did that or not but reminded me of it.

Looks like a pack that could work very well for some, but likely to be polarizing since it only fits a few styles of packing.

3 lbs 2oz sm/med 50L; 3 lbs 3 oz med/lg 52L per specs at Kelty website. Nice pack, but all that organization takes it toll in weight.

I believe it weighs less than the Kestrel 48 and and that is a dang fine pack used by many thrus and sectioners so I am a little perplexed at Hayes' comment, especially considering he didn't bother to follow it with "imo". I'm always amused by those comments.

Well, in general any comment that doesn't offer a citation to a peer reviewed source is by nature only opinion.

"Now, I don't want to get off on a rant here," but IMO it would be rather tedious to put "IMO" in front or behind everything we say/write, IMO. "Of course that's just my opinion, I could be wrong."
