Default Describe the perfect AT hostel

What do you think makes a great hostel?

What about its location in relation to the trail?

What kind of services/prices are you looking for?

    Who are the ideal owners?

Feel free to be as general or specific as you want. Maybe you remember a service that a particular hostel had and you think it should be the standard. Thanks for reading.

    1) Within a mile of the trail so I can walk there instead of getting a ride.

    2) Clean properly working showers.

    3) Washer/Dryers that are fully operational.

    4) Space on the grounds where tenting is allowed.

    5) Cell phone reception so I can call home.

    6) Friendly, competent owner/staff.

    7) An organized, reliable way of accounting for packages hikers have sent to the hostel.

I don't mind paying decent money for these things.

Echo Woods Hole, ended my hike there this past June, private room, massage, great food, good company...left the ten miles between there and Pearisburg to do so that I can take the wife and kids back for a long weekend in the early fall and stay. Really impressed with what they have there.

A nice B&B with good meals, a soft bed, and massage services.

    OK I'll try.
    Perfect hostel would be:
    Clean
    Have swimming pool
They would take your dirty clothes from you when you arrive and hand them back, cleaned, washed, ironed and folded an hour later.
OF course they would give you some awesome clothes to wear while you wait that you would be tempted to take with you. (but of course you wouldn't)
Would have every meal AYCE with at least the same menu as the Bellagio's AYCE in Vegas.
Clean single rooms with attached bathroom, cable TV with all sporting events from around the world.
Lots of singles from the opposite sex also staying there, all beautiful of course.
A ride to and from the trail whenever you prefer with no waiting.
A gear shop attached with any backpacking gear and possible food that you might crave. Open 24 hours. (including pizza)
All for free or perhaps a small donation.
    Did I miss anything?
Don't let your fears stand in the way of your dreams
