Yeah, that was fun to watch.
I used to do a bunch of winter camping.
Always had a nice fire and we'd build a lean-to out of pine boughs back in the 60's (then switched to plastic when it got un-cool)
Spent most of the time cutting firewood and drinking.
    Never colder than -8 though.
    Great Video.
    Cool Trip.
    Love those Go-Pros.

Amazing ... makes me feel like a real wimp opting for the treadmill this morning rather than the balmy 18 degrees above outside...

I love Ely. Chocolate Moose ftw!

Fast forward the video to the 17.25 mark and look at the seams in his quilted hat. Body moisture making it's way up through the hat has started to crystallize. Made me think of how we need to be aware of moisture build up in our sleeping bags.

I sure do hope his finger heals well.

Shug is awesome. And he got his fancy feast stove fired up, too.

In the Twin Cities, it's supposed to get down to -25F on Sunday night (-37F in Ely up north), with a high of -15F on Monday, with 10-20 mph winds for a -45F wind chill. I'm pretty sure my gear can't get me that low, let alone a hammock setup! I love the crystal blue winter skies of Minnesota; so much better than the months of clouds to the east of the Great Lakes.

I have a video somewhere that was made in the twin city area showing tthe StarLyte stove being used to thaw the door latch mechanism on my car. My daughter and I were on our way to a doctor appointment and had to get the latch thawed.

I think shug will lay low till his finger heals.

He has so many tales to tell:

LOL. hiking Vid, only the way he can do it. What an upbeat character. Love it. What's he gonna do now since his middle picking finger now resembles ET's? Wonder if it glows?

I've been to Ely, twice, for winter camping, but the coldest it got was -25 F below zero.
