... So GG might join us... We just need to encourage him to empty some of his inbox to make room for a new message...

Gorgeous George? Gertrude Geppenheimer? Gerry Geriatric? Leslie Caron?

When he empties his inbox we can ask what it stands for... Maybe he owns gossamer gear and is bringing free stuff for everyone at the gathering. I'm pretty sure that's it...

I may show up too, but only for one of the days. Otherwise the group would probably be dealing with a hypothermic me, and I'd hate to be the focus of attention. Will make up my mind closer to the date, based on weather conditions.

Oh yeah, that would be me!

We all know what has to happen to the hypothermic person... Going for the sleeping bag ,"in the altogether", with someone else to get warmed up.

    Y'all are funny!! Where's GG?

There might be a line at the noontime check-in at Elk Pen Friday. I'll try to have one of those "Take a Number" dispensers handy.

Teacher - You see with all these "I might be there" and "can I come too?" postings where I have serious trouble getting a headcount? I've totally lost control of this situation!

Not that I was ever in control of it. Lazarus said that he wanted to organize a group for January, and asked me where I'd suggest going. Then he started going around telling everyone that I was leading. Well, he'll get all the organization you'd expect from that.
I always know where I am. I'm right here.

    Kelvin,

I don't know if I can be of much help to you, but going back to the original groups, the early post from the other cafe, and what's been said here, I have the following:

    larzarus
    Coach Lou (but not Overtime)
    Sarcasm
    Hikerboy (probably not)
    Another Kevin
    Rocketsocks
    Snacktime
    Teacher
Just Bill (I've messaged repeatedly w/ no response)
    Moose717
    CrazyB
    imscotty
    secondhand (cancelled)
    Driver8 (uncertain)
    LIHiker, wife Kathy & dog
    tiptoe
    Malto
    Bags4266
    GG

If there are any more, or changes or deletions mentioned in the cafe after I left, you'll have to note those. The names in red have said they plan to be at Elk Pen on Friday., though I don't know if Moose is planning to show up at noon, and LIHiker will be later or Sat.

Sixteen likely - I Hope this helps.

...it'll be worth coming just to see me sneak up behind Another Kevin and give him a big hug! and you can't herd cats, anyway... that's what i say.

10 day forecast shows us at just about average temps for the trip -- likely above freezing daytime and mid twenties nights... and not looking like any snow cover. It'll be like winter in Georgia on a good weekend ...

I think Kelvin should change his name to Fahrenheit, or at least Celsius, or Centigrade, or something. I mean who uses
    Kelvin anyway? Be serious.

Delays, delays... I was at Disney on Ice with the family. Hopefully this outing won't be as bizarre tho I have my doubts.

Hope to be hiking in on fri. night but most likely sat.

Is there a time yet to meet at elk pen? Also for those who can't make that time is there a spot picked out yet for the first overnight? Thanks

Elk Pen at noon Friday.....first overnight at Fingerboard shelter. This is the plan for the low and slow group, as it's about how far Snacktime and I can get in the available daylight. If you want your car moved elsewhere, let us know. Kelvin (aka Another Kevin) and I are planning to drop his car somewhere else and get back to my car at Elk Pen, so mass-shuttling and vehicle location begins then.

    Gotcha Coach......noon also?

My thought is that Kelvin will have a map/list of the various parking/bailout points, and those of us gathered will buddy up and do some driving to those places to leave vehicles, then be shuttled back to Elk Pen to start the hike. We'll need to do cell phone # exchanges, etc at that point if anyone wants to be waited for at Elk Pen to hike with a group, etc.

Kelvin, is this what you had in mind? Sorry to intervene, but I can't help but organize!!!! (it's a compulsion)

Itinerary for the Low and Slow Group (individual mileage may vary):

Fri: Elk Pen to Fingerboard Shelter 3.7 mi
Sat: Fingerboard Shelter to Wm Brien Shelter 4.6 mi
Sun: Wm Brien Shelter to West Mtn. Shelter 3.6 mi
Mon: West Mtn. Shelter to Trailside Museum & Zoo (and Bear Mtn Pkg) 4.5 mi

There are several loop options for individuals to increase their hike lengths and still meet at the shelter in the evening....talk to Kevin.
