The issue is what pieces are worth spending more on? Next to the skin, it's hard to beat Patagonia's Capilene if you want to go synthetic or icebreaker's merino.

Icebreaker's "cool sphere" material--tencel & merino--kicks the snot out of cotton in hot humid weather. Some of the lighter synthetics do well too, although not over the long haul, compared to cool...
Patagonia Capilene boxers are better than ex officio and will last for decades...but will cost you more. Icebreaker merino boxers are great but will cost you a pretty penny and fall apart under...
Depends which jacket. These days I'd look at the OR helium as the standard for weight and packability, and then decide from there what I wanted.

Same here. I have 1 lb. in my vest and jacket w/hood, both synthetic. I wear both when it drops below freezing. In the summer, it's vest only.

The version with the pit zips is heavier fwiw...wouldn't make a huge difference to me either way but gram counters might care.

I stack up icebreaker baselayers until I'm warm. I have two long sleeves, a sweatshirt and many short sleeve merino wool layers. In a soft mesh stuff sack, they make a great pillow.
Heavy wool...
I carry a 40 degree quilt which serves me well in the warmer summer months and gives me some overhead if it's chilly. I undo the foot box and keep it over my mid section when it's hot.

We talk a lot about the big ticket items but sometimes it's all about the incidental stuff. Packing a roll of leukotape saved my hike this week. Those bio/wilderness wipes were a godsend in the...
Opted not to buy keens because I've been reading that last year's run have been falling apart sadly. I went with la sportiva ecos which are ok...also check out oboz.

There's a time for foam pad, and that's when you're 25. My 42 year old body is loving side sleeping on the klymit insulated static V. Slept like a baby the last three nights in 30 degree temps. ...
Additionally, there are three new to me items that have been kicking butt for me this year...light heart gear so long 6, klymit insulated static V and ula circuit. Oooh...and my prana brion and zion...
I just limped my way through the OML in Big Bend with this stove. Got mine for $11. I'm not sure how durable it will be over the long haul but it worked extremely well with a 500 to 750ml titanium...
I hate that plastic strip in the halos but some really like it.

I use headsweats brand head bands from amazon for cycling, basketball and summer hiking here in south texas. The more expensive, thicker band does a better job on the trail while the cheaper version...
I would bring a footprint if you're not sure what kind of terrain you're pitching on. Less than five days...I'd cut a piece of polycro. More than five days...I'd opt for the tyvek.

Also hagolfs is top notch stuff and fits my longer lanky body well.

I just acquired the Hagolfs LIM jacket. It's extremely light but not a replacement for a warmer down jacket. For true late fall and winter use youd have to seriously layer under it anyway so you...
I bring a small bottle of woolite for sink washing merino. Nylon and other synthetic items are even easier as shampoo will do in a pinch and they'll dry faster.

I know the feeling. Just received a klymit motion 35 via massdrop. Its a M/L but still small for me at 6'3". Maybe I'm just spoiled by the fit of my ULA?
Nice pack though. I dig the inflatable...
ULA packs are worth it especially if the stock packs aren't panning out. You can order the J straps, torso length and hip belt to dial in the fit just right.

What jpolk said. Get your gear together and see if you're going to routinely be above 35lbs...if so, the aether might be a better choice. Love my circuit but I also thought highly of the aether...
Oh, one more suggestion. I've recently had luck with Ex Officio's Minimo shirts if you're in the mood for a classic button down. Again, can be found for around $30 and beats the hell out of the...
I own just about every shirt made by Icebreaker and wear them on a daily basis. The best shirt, in terms of durability, stink resistance, performance, comfort and fit is IB's newer Cool-Sphere...
Splurged on a Klymit Static V Luxe insulated. Totally worth it.
