There is usually a shuttle service that runs along the trail. Call the SHT office for more info on that. I usually hike in late August into September. It's about perfect then, practically bug free,...
Hiya Gumbi. Nice to see another Iowan on the site. We are pretty rare. I use a Heinekin beer can for my pot surrounded by Kevlar tape. No pot gripper. Check out...
Just go to Target or Wally World and get some ankle high women's nylon stretch socks. They rock for liners. Carried three pair with me and changed them everyday. NO BLISTERS!
I have Kelvar wicking wrapped around my Heineken, stained with hot chocolate :)
Yeah, I did that section from Standing Bear to Hot Springs in May. The bear(s) were active then too. I personally did not see any, but a couple I met at Elmer's had their food bags relieved from them...

Starting in April for a month section. Not sure exactly, but sometime in the first week or two. I gotta survive the bus ride from Des Moines to Atlanta...then I'll see ya on the trail...:)

Go to a massage therapist and have him/her work on that muscle group. They can work wonders. Find someone local that is good. Call around and get some recommendations. Mine brought me back from a...
Yikes, I can buy over 100 acres of some very expensive Iowa farm land with a house on it for less than that...
My plan is similar, although I'm taking some maps :) Getting some therapy for a fractured left ankle, should be ready to go by March. See ya on the trail...
mweinstone...I like your attitude!! :)
I've hiked the southern 35 miles of it. Its not an entirely easy trial, moderate at times. It has some good climbs, although only two to four hundred feet. Water can be a problem if its dry. I would...
I'll have two pair, one standard, one sunglasses, both to my perscription. If you see a guy wearing aviation shades at night, its ME!
I'll give it a shot...probably in early March. No plans...no food drops, no mail drops. Just head north at a leisurely pace. I don't have to be anywhere special, except the trail :)
Hey cool, can you post a manufacturing number or other type of information. Looks like a 3M type of product...Great idea!!
Check this site out. Take a look at the Jiffy mixes. Looks interesting to me...

I sleep on my side when home, but in my HH, its on my back and I'm out like a light. You can sleep on your side too, if you want. In actuality, I probably sleep more with a 20-30 deg tilt toward one...
NASA has very similar software called World Wind or similar. It'll run on a Linux or Mac. Needs DirectX and .NET. It already has the AT mapped out.
I live in Iowa where there is a 5cent deposit on all cans and bottles. It really makes a difference. But you still see yahoos throwing crap out cars. I can not for the life of me understand why...
I reckon early March...
Thanks for the insight jason...you have helped edge me toward the ULA, is it 2007 yet? :)
