Interesting. I take 2-3 200mg tablets of Advil every evening for shoulder pain so I can get to sleep.
I read Appalachian Trials by Zach Davis.

Good information. Thanks, Deacon
I have a Trail Journal and find that it posts almost real time. The journalist has control over the date on the post and sometimes they catch up on posts, so some dates might lag.
I don't use a vest opting for the Marmot Zeus down jacket in camp and during stops, so want the sleeves, too. That said, I can see the attraction of the vest. Back in the day when I used a down vest...
I wonder how an Owl decoy stuck in an upper corner of the shelter would deter mice. They seem to work in barns.
I agree with Slo-go'en. Hike the Trail. Not only will you have a better idea of where to put a hostel, you will have a better appreciation for the hiker culture (good and bad) and the personal needs...
I am usually antsy to get on the Trail in the morning, so I just eat a protein bar.
I have rubber tips on my trekking poles. I found they 'stick' very well to rocky terrain. But when I'm hiking in mud, I take the rubber tips off for better traction.
I'm using the Lowe Alpine Contour III I've had for 15 years. I purchased an Osprey Aether 70 recently for the weight savings, but, when I got it home, I really missed the external pockets and...
I looked at the Alpinlite and almost went with it. I found the Big Agnes has a little more room and I really like the BA sleep system.

Interesting the number that don't hang their bags. On my Georgia section hike last year, I hung when there was a bear cable. Otherwise, I kept the bag in my tent. Those I hiked with were aghast and...
The last TJ post I see from AK is January 17th from Franklin, NC.

Ha! Good one. That reminds me of that old spiritual, "You will know that I'm a hiker by my smell!"
So, then, why would you keep it in your tent. Is your tent, by chance, hermetically sealed?
I prefer ccf, but am using an inflatable for the cold weather portions of my hike. I am also a side sleeper and am liking the Big Agnes 20" wide Q-Core SL mummy with my Big Agnes Zirkel UL20 bag.
In the vestibule in a contractor bag.
It depends on how much real cooking you want to do, but I like my MSR Pocket Rocket for boiling water. Pretty much bullet proof and efficient. Down side is, I will have to carry/sleep with the...
I have AWOL's plans downloaded on my iphone. I expect it to work until Hiawassee after which I will probably throw it out.
There are many real time journals on trail journals.com. I've never heard of an issue as a result. I have read of guys chasing down "love interests" through the shelter journals.

If you don't get any responses, I don't think you'll have...
Based on the wise counsel, above, I think I'll stick with my March 16th start.
