Good way for Walmart to lose more business to Amazon (or REI or local hiking gear stores).
Used bread bags multiple times to keep socks dry when cold and wet.
When up for closer to 100 miles, I would recommend Shenandoah NP. After completing the AT in 2021, I even went back in 2022 and did this section again. Reasonable trail (especially after NH & ME),...
Healthspan much more important than lifespan.
Unfortunately much of our medical approach is reactive (just trying to prolong your death) instead of proactive (preventive to live better until death).
Appreciate that post Peakbagger. I don't normally drink tea, but might start carrying a pouch or two now on my colder hikes. I guess if an emergency I could always add Mio or Propell to hot water,...
Same here, not cheap, but a good investment in the big picture.
Never used on AT.
Now Colorado Trail, totally different story.
Looked like it might be a copper head
VA is not flat!
But it is a lot easier than NH and ME.
You hike from GA thru VT.
NH and ME are a whole another experience.
If you could push it to 160 miles the Collegiate Loop would be a great fit for your requirements.
When stayed there in 2015 tough decision of if I should sleep in my camp clothes or my hiking clothes.
I use SuperFeet. Be sure to make sure you buy the correct color for "your feet".
I am a sleeping bag person. I used a Western Mountaineering HighLite 35*.

Probably not much other than the movies and battle nearby (which I believe would have been long before the barn was built).
I enjoyed staying there 10 years ago, but it is probably time to take it...
It was a good read that was appropriately titled.
With some tents like Big Agnes, you can set the rain fly up first, and work on clipping the actual tent to the poles.
Not easier, but dryer.
With Trail Runners 500 miles is usually a good average target. Northern PA, NH. and ME are probably the toughest on your shoes/boots.
I spent the night there as I hiked by. Then as a section hiker always tried to spend a night there as I drove home. Highly recommend.
Sounds like it might work out great for you, but no experience with it.
FWIW, I have been very happy with your original ULA choice. Originally started out with Catalyst that I still use in the...
Perhaps I am more in the ultimate hiker than ultimate camper group. I am always too tired at the end of the day to think about starting a fire.
Although I will admit I did appreciate the ...
Most feasible approach would probably be retiree starting by using personal vehicle and a tent in contiguous 48. After that you could determine what is best for Alaska.
NH and ME are a whole different ballgame. But by then after 1800 miles you are committed.
