Thanks for the suggestions, and yes, I'm talking about Pennyslvania's trail.
Can I send a fuel canister in a mail drop? I've never tried that--just assumed it wasn't allowed.

I'm buying a new stove for my MST hike, but I'm concerned that I'll get out there and not be able to find fuel. What would be my best bet?
The Pinhoti Trail goes pretty close to Mount Cheaha, Alabama's high point at
2,413 feet. When they ask me, I'll tell them the trail should be re-routed to go over the summit.
SFAC! (Sorry for any confusion!)
Is there a list of designated trail towns on the GET? I think Chattanooga's one, and Elkhorn City. Maybe Cave Spring? Any others?
Thanks! 10c
Matt,
The link doesn't work. Would you mind giving me the title so I can search for it?
Thanks.
Awesome guide, Speaker.
GA/AL line and Rabbittown Road
I'm looking for someone who can shuttle two people either the morning of the 19th or late afternoon of the 22nd. We'll be hiking the northernmost Alabama section of the trail.
I'm probably misreading something here, but if you're doing what I call the "Georgia Loop," won't you walk right through Mountain Crossings? I'm confused as to why you'd need the 5-mile detour.
10-K: Iago was a major winter storm that came through the South almost 2 weeks ago.
I don't think it would allow you to avoid shelters entirely, but you could legally avoid a couple by staying at the official campsites on or near the AT that don't have shelters. As an added bonus,...
Their website didn't seem to have anything, but I sent them an email. Thanks!
Does anyone have any information about how Iago is affecting the FT?
Are you flying or driving? It's helpful to know whether you'd need the trailhead to be reasonably close to an airport.
I agree that you won't be able to find everything you need in a local store, but buy what you can locally. Folks need jobs.
I haven't done the southernmost section, so I can't answer your question, but try posting your question in the Pinhoti forum at alatrails.com. Someone there will know.
Welcome! I'm constantly mauled by family members telling me the woods aren't safe, but I imagine it's worse for a 20-year-old female. Don't worry about hiking solo on the AT, though. You'll find a...
Saw a unicorn on the trail once.
If you're willing to do mail drops, MaryJane's Outpost has a terrific selection of vegetarian and vegan meals. Tasty, organic, and convenient.
Cookerhiker--I stand by my post. If she wants to leave Springer in March or April to hike the Colorado Trail, she should have no problem finding a partner :)
If you're traveling northbound and leaving any time in March or April, you'll have no problem finding a group to travel with. No need to find a hiking partner ahead of time--the AT isn't a lonely...
I'm doing a week on the Alabama section--either the week of Dec. 23rd or Dec. 30th. Just trying to get back into trail shape, so I won't be going too fast.
I did the AT/BMT Smokies loop a few years back. People yell at me when I say the AT part was better, but that's just me. I'd recommend starting at Fontana or Davenport Gap and doing the BMT section...
