It's nobody elses business what you do with your pack. I think its sad that someone would have the nerve to actually make a negative comment about patches for God's sake. If I want someones opinion,...

So he was found alive and in good condition this morning at 10:04 AM. What a good success story and a valuble lesson. I am happy for him and his family.
His parents knew all about it. Apparently, his mother just went through surgery while he planned this hike and their attention was more focused on that. Although, as his father says, he is an eagle...
I was up there hiking that same day, he was ahead of us I am assuming judging by his and my departure times. He was aiming for a 17 mile day and we did a 14. But his itinerary involved much more...
Switchbacks, steep hills, whatever. If there is Beer and/or good food at the end I believe I can hike as far as it takes with proper motivation. A lighter pack and proper footwear helps a little too.
I disagree, Maine and New Hamphire are by far the most attractive parts of the Appalachain Mountains. Plus, the AT is one of Americas oldest footpaths.
you're just jealous wargey!:D I still can't say your name right.
trust me, you'll be glad you didn't. Rivers will probably be higher this year than they have been in about 4 years. plus, remember those lovely black flies and mosquitoes. Its gonna be a buffet!!
you'll get eaten alive no matter what.
if anyone is starting on june 3rd, Twix and I are going to climb Katahdin to commemorate our starting date last year. let me know if anyone wants a ride.
dude, you're one lucky mofo. still no trailname i take it?
Alright, I will set this straight for all of you. I am SOBO this year and I was at white house landing in june. They do take credit, you can re-supply, you do pay more but its worth it, the side...
yeah i'm rocking the OR bug bucket and my tent weighs 2 lbs. Not too worried about the flies and mosquitos. no deet though, yuck.
All I know is I am leaving for katahdin on friday and I will sit and wait until I can hike.
cant believe it's already here
You know, to me it sounds like it doesn't matter which way you go weather wise, you always run the risk of inclement weather anywhere, anytime on the AT. As far as insects go, you've got it right....
I am hiking katahdin the 2nd and heading SOBO on the 3rd. I am bringing long underwear and a fleece.
Most southbound hikers I've talked to say the 100 mile wilderness is bad but gets a lot better afterwards. From my personal experience I think it just depends, each year varies in intensity.
same plans here. see you on the trail!
Also arriving June 1st, hiking katahdin june 2nd and hiking out on june 3rd.
I like your style haha... thanks for the suggestions everyone. Im sure I will figure out something thank you.
I have been planning to hike the trail for a few years now and I think I have most everything figured out as far as gear goes. There is one problem though, I am a bass player and i have had no luck...
