To be fair the smart phone is a given, I didn't think to include it in my gear because its kind of like my pants, if I leave my house without it I'm in trouble lol. However it is a good point,
Hi everyone, I'm getting ready for my nobo attempt on April 1 at springer, I'm going over my gear list and would like to ask for opinions and suggestions to lighten my load, and maybe answer a...
So I'm finally going to be starting my nobo thru hike roughly mar 15ish, I've got everything I need minus a pair of gloves, I'm thinking just a midweight pair of fleece, but I'm worried about damper...
Got a fleece desert camo hoodie when I was back in middle school around 03, turns out I was fully grown to 5’10 by the time I was 12/13, still use it today for day trips and over nights because it’s...
Planning a shakedown hike for mid March, any recommendations on a trailhead for a 5-7 day section hike?
April 1-15 NOBO, using the extra two weeks to scrounge a bit more cash in case I need to. See you all on trail

Planning my hike for March 1st, and flying in the end of February, any recommendations on getting to Springer from Atlanta without a rental car?
Also planning my thru hike for March 1st 2020. I've been wanting to do the trail for almost 9 years and this finally looks like the year. Let's hope life doesn't get in my way this time.
Another great pack for that same price range is the granite gear crown. Just over 2 pounds with plenty of stuff you can snip off to lose that extra weight. Regardless, all of the above packs are...
Should probably add that my base weight is hanging around 14-15 pounds.
Slowly but surely shaving my gear weight down, soon I'll be getting an ultralight quilt. Anyone have pack recommendations for a bigger guy that has good back ventilation for less than $300? Zpacks is...
For all thru-hikers past and present , what were the luxury items you kept on trail despite the weight? The crazier the better.
Even now as I am preparing for my thru hike the question plagues me: do I really need to invest in a pair or two pairs of hiking / running shorts or would just a pair of el Cheapo Walmart basketball...
The real problem asking "which hammock is best?" Is that a lot of people have a lot of different experiences with the same hammocks. Your weight plays a decent part in which hammock you should start....
So I recently picked up a hennessy hex fly from rei because my eno tarp just wasn't cutting it. The thing was too small for any practical use and so I upgraded. My question is, besides an A-frame...
I love the concept of a bridge hammock, but I just cannot get comfortable in them because I toss and turn so much in my sleep.
*shug.
stupid auto correct
shut is THE reason why I switched over to hammocks, first an eno, now a warbonnet blackbird. The comfort is phenomenal and I can always find the time to hang out... get it? lol
perhaps "need" wasn't the best way to phrase it. I'm trying to figure out my pace so I know where I'll stop each night (in theory anyway)
So I've been planning my thru hike for some time, I've got all my gear, I've practiced using said gear, and I've hiked with the gear and I'm confident in my abilities... what I am doubting is my...
