I use the Toaks light 550, but then again, my only use for a pot/stove is warming up water to add to protein shakes when I am out and it is slated to be below 40 degrees on the trip.

Lost one of my Darn Tough Hiker Compression socks on the BMT somewhere between Bearpen Branch and the big ford on the way to Enloe Creek campsite. I would love to get it back as apparently DT has...
Good to hear on the back moisture! I am curious if the curved stays can potentially be retrofit into an Arc Blast. Then I could remove the mesh trampoline part and not have to spend $325 on a 5 litre...
It can be a complete gamble. I was on the Pinhoti in 2018 in February and it never dropped below 40 degrees. Some years/days/weeks it could be in the 20's or lower. This was in the middle 108 miles...
Ladies shower was closed on Nov 15. The single shower next to it was open. It was pretty clean, especially since I had used the Hilton men's shower as well, the hilton shower was pretty rough. Had a...
They were open November 15th, both at the Hilton and the nicer ones at the Visitor Center.
The distance on the Appalachian Trail betweenTN32-Davenport Gap, TN 239.1 andFontana Dam, NC 166.7is 72.4 miles.Estimated ascent in section is 20,080'...
No, the Smokies were pretty mild in terms of blowdown damage. The Blue Ridge, GA area was horrible.
Georgia was the hardest section to me, granted, there were 1000's of blowdowns from Zeta and there was very little scenery. I used Sgt. Rock for town info and Guthook for on trail navigation.
I was there last week on my BMT thruhike, flow was good but the blowdowns from Zeta had almost blocked access to the water source at the closest point.
Interesting, I may have to move the Trace up my list.
I put 50 miles on mine in Segment 1 of the MST a couple of weekends ago. I was pretty impressed with the traction/grip and mine came out looking like new minus some staining from mud. Day 1 was 50%...
I haven't completed the AT yet, but the allures of the shorter trails is real for me. To me the reality for most is that a shorter thru hike is possible where a big-3 is not. So I have been focusing...
Hawk went through there about a week ago and all of the waysides were open.
I live in Alabama and I wouldn't sleep in a car anywhere in Montgomery. You would probably be better off continuing down i-85 to Auburn and pulling off there. Several good churches there but I don't...
If you haven't already, might want to check reddit. /r ultralightgeartrade they come up more frequently there than on Whiteblaze.
Thermarest makes reg/wide versions now with a new inflation/deflation valve.
There is a site as soon as you finish the climb up from Rock Gap parking. You might even want to stay there as the climb can suck if it is at the end of a long day. I don't recall any others but I...
Jeff was done before it happened. I spoke to Benny, and a closure happened on one of his FKTs in the Smokies, if you complete all open trails before a closed trail re-opens, then you get a...
There are plenty of places outside the park past Davenport Shelter. Around the shelter is mostly rocks and the toilet field with poop under all of the rocks.
They changed it back to a month/30 days out last week.
Interesting, I deactivated FB recently so I wasn't aware.
There is no best anything. Trial and error is the best way to find what pad will work best for you with price/weight/size all being factors.
I personally use the Therm-a-rest xlite and enjoy it...
Let me know what locations and I will check Guthook to see if there are any comments. I have left a car at FS 500(at the Heflin spur)by the tracks for 3-6 days a couple of times with no issue....
You could leave a car at Coleman Lake Recreation Area, but I think you may need to pay the day use fee of $3 per day. As far as a food drop, you would probably want to talk to the Ranger District....
