Doxy is the drug of choice. I know too many NY'ers who have been recently bitten and that's what they're all getting and what you'd get if you went to urgent care here. One of my friends who got...
I carry a bear canister (the Garcia--I call it "Jerry" for short :) ) because I've mastered all the parts of a great bear hang except for one: I can never get the hang high enough. At the end of a...
Hint: There's a reason it's called BACKPACKING and not MESSENGER BAGGING.
I bet you could totally toss in sesame flour--great idea!!! I wish I had done that before my section!

I just read that as "err on the size of crouton" and figured that if it's not as big as a crouton, you're pretty much going to be okay. :)

Thanks for posting this. I actually just asked about this on another forum, so this was super helpful.
Done it a bunch of times. Loved it. If you have the chance, go for it.
Expensive but get the store brand of Allegra at your next resupply, assuming it's allergies. Best stuff out there. I always have horrible allergies and this stuff is a lifesaver. Hope you feel better...
Have you considered volunteering on your local trail maintenance crew? In NY, there are always NY-NJ Trail Conference volunteer projects. Maybe things like that would be good.

I caught a tick trying to catch a ride on my leg this past Sunday while on the AT in NY.
LL Bean: making hiking unaffordable since 1912.
"But it's just walking...."
"Not anymore, kiddies. Now it's upscale adventure walking. Those miles are gonna cost ya!"
Is it possible to batch cook and dehydrate so all you have to do is rehydrate and toss in a shot of olive oil when cooking? It would be lighter than carrying fresh food.
