of the 3 options you presented rt 23 is probably the best. there is an actual parking lot there, a short driveway off the main road up to a lot that could probably hold 10 cars if they crammed in. i...

hopefully OP postponed their trip! most of the trail in MA just saw 20" or more of snow. to add on to that, there is a massive amount of downed trees and limbs so the trail is sure to be an obstacle...
near me in MA there is probably maybe 2-4" on the ground at 900' and 6-10" once you get above 1600 or so. unless we get another dump of snow i suspect there won't be much snow below 1600'' by the...
you can piece most of it together with the maps from the appropriate state land areas:

looks like you need a ride on a saturday. if it was a midweek day i might have been able to help out. you can try messaging me when the date gets closer though just in case.
i live semi-locally and have used the lot for day outings probably a dozen times without issue. i wouldn't expect a problem, but i also wouldn't leave anything valuable or interesting in sight.
i was referring to this:
https://adk.org/product/high-peaks-adirondack-trail-map/
i find it interesting that it wasn't more prominently displayed in their shop. i think i'm a version behind but...
oops, you can ignore that last line. i was starting to say that i hadn't checked the full map set for errors, just the high peaks region. too bad we can't edit!
are you looking for just the high peaks region or for map sets for the whole park?
the bundle of 5 nat geo maps is on amazon for $47, you probably won't beat that unless you get lucky at a used...

this feels a little misleading, at least for MA. yes, there are large tracts of public land that the trail passes through but generally speaking those lands are also fairly well covered with camping...
there is plenty of water in hop brook (i ran along it earlier today) but i would recommend against drinking from it for one of the reasons you stated - livestock contamination. lots of farms in the...
water was flowing in tyringham today, though not as strong as it was a week ago. i think some of the smaller / seasonal brooks might be dry but the larger ones should be reliable.
we do have a...
i am local and have not had issues (or personally heard of issues) with any of these sites, though i have only used the main rd lot for overnights.
there are two other crossings northbound from...
hadn't seen anything posted here yet about this attempt. kristian is a british ultra runner who paced karel sabbe occasionally last year and apparently has a goal of <40 days for his attempt.

greetings from a section runner who lives near trail in MA.
my solution for chipping away at NJ/NY/CT/MA has largely just been to do everything as out and backs, looping back on different trails...
saw a mama bear and a very tiny single cub on trail today at about noon, just a minute or so NOBO from the shaker campsite.
to add to what cosmo said: i haven't seen any on trail yet in the area, but we've had a bear sighting about 3/4 of a mile from the campsite. they are awake and prowling!
i live in the area and agree that the goose pond rd parking is a pretty quiet and presumably safe spot.
for nearby alternates, there will be more space and more traffic at rt 20, with less space...
in my time on trail in MA the last 2-3 years i have seen some sort of hiker feed style 'trail magic' (fresh water, sports drinks, sodas, fruit, and other snacks) at 7 different road crossings. i...
don't think i have seen this posted yet. for those curious, karel sabbe was a guest for the FKT website's 'fastest known podcast' - https://fastestknowntime.com/podcast/episode-2-karel-sabbe
i...
i would be curious about this information too, if anyone has access to it.
this is why i would happily vouch for karel. i met him on trail unannounced at a moment it would have been quite easy for him to cheat if he had wanted to.
he paused for a photo with his...
i've run past the shaker site near sunset a few times in the last two weeks and haven't spotted the bears again. a few other sightings on/near trail though, and reports from all over town of frequent...
speaking only for MA, the only issue i would see in meeting the OP's stated goals would be how the heck one would reasonably carry / keep / prepare the food items listed. i know that the Big Y...
