Bill, I'd be very happy if you want to refine my spreadsheet (or Todd's) and improve accuracy. If you want me to look up any questionable start/end points on Strava please ask. The record on...
According to Strava he was about 4km past Poplar Ridge Lean-to night of Day 38 (in the drainage below Redington Pond). That's maybe 3 miles short of where I had him on my spreadsheet. Night before...
Karel's team seemed to be reporting kms based on their tracker map. I've assumed that the AT track on that map came from a GPX file for the AT, which you can find online, and that the distances (km)...
Small detail, OMO, but I think he slept at Long Pond Stream shelter night of 8/26 (see Strava).
We just got confirmation from Joren: 4d7h39m !!!
I think SB's record is "harder" - it requires many more skills than just running & not getting hurt, plus emotionally it is much harder to do it all yourself & be on top of all the logistics yourself...
It seems very likely he'll finish more than 4 days ahead of Joe's FKT of 45d12h15m. He started on 7/18 at 4:30am, so would need to finish by 4:45pm to keep the 4 day cushion.
Now we can start...
FB shows pic of them at a paved rd (Golden Rd?) this morning with this: "Karel ran all night and he & Jo got off at 7.30 for the ultimate destination of their journey : Mt. Kathadin!"
We all wondered how Karel would do once he hit the harder terrain up north. Well, safe to say he's hit it out of the park! In the past week Karel has averaged something like 30% more miles per day...
Off to the Bigelow Range Traverse!
From Emma's sort of cryptic report I have to assume he slept at Bemis Mtn shelter? If so he did 60 miles yesterday??? Whoa!
Thank you Emma! Can you tell us where about he slept? In a shelter or... ?
Given that it's now just about 24 hours without any signal from the tracker, I would say it's not working better.
Looks like we lost him at Old Speck. I wonder where he got to today!? Wish he had an inReach!
I didn't notice a delay in Karel's tracker. ? Just that he loses cell connection a lot, and also the buffering doesn't seem to be working very well lately (big gaps in the data not being filled in...

Disclaimer: I stole JB's quote about the swiss watch, but I did attribute it to him when I spoke to Kate. She just didn't...
Bill, if you try to fart out candles you just burn your ass!
This guy sometimes does as many as 6 impossible things before breakfast...
He's certainly putting in an epic 2 days! Has anyone else done the Presi AND Carter-Moriah traverses on the same day??? ... in the middle of an AT thru???!!! ... in lousy weather...? It seems...
Looks like he was trying to get a jump on the weather, which is supposed to go from bad to terrible this afternoon. I wonder if he'll continue past Pinkham Notch today? I think we can safely say...
Early start this morning after early end yesterday. I'd guess he'll gun for Crawford Notch, which would be a 45 mile day in the heart of the Whites! And he'd be cued up for the Presi Traverse...
Likely we'll have spottier tracking in the Whites, and really from here on out. Someone should lend him an inReach tracker! Seems like the buffering isn't working well with this newer tracker.
He sure has a penchant for stopping places with no cell coverage... I'm guessing Hanover Ctr Rd / Etna, + or -. That'd be 52.7 for the day. Yawn....
To get his 50+ he'll need to get past Hanover tonight. Another 50 after that will put him over Moosilauke tomorrow night!
What? No, the tracker shows him going more than an hour past Story Spring. There's no way he'd have turned back to that shelter. He made it to Stratton Pond Shelter at a minimum. Great to learn of...
