I can attest to the accuracy of this. I have taken to carrying massive quantities of Busch beer when hiking, in place of water and food. When going out for more than two days, I usually replace my...

If you park at the Standing Indian Campground, you can follow the Kimsey Creek trail from Deep Gap. A very enjoyable walk - and almost entirely down hill.
She is very active on facebook.

Knee pain, mainly downhill, cut my first section short. I resorted to going downhills backwards (oddly that helped), and it took me ALL day to go 6 miles to Woody Gap. While waiting for a ride back...
I seldom see it mentioned in these "Tyvek vs. Footprint" discussions, but a double wall tent with the factory footprint allows you to keep the inside portion of tent dry when setting it up in a...
Some other ideas that I haven't seen mentioned:
- Start at Springer and knockout all of Georgia.
- Deep Gap NC north to Fontana. A lot of variation and three of the southern balds.
Maybe he meant 2019(?).

Fun game. Thanks! I'm surprised more people don't die on the AT. :-) I died twice in Pennsylvania and once in New Jersey; In Vermont right now.
The sunset from Cheoah Bald - actually from a rock outcropping on the opposite side of the trail - is amazing. If you plan is to do this section in two days, this makes for a short day one and a...
I did it in a cold heavy October rain; it was fine. I don't remember anything scary or tricky. If you're going NOBO, gives you a good excuse to hang out at Mountain Crossings for a few minutes and...

Great Plan! I'm jealous. Have fun!

Kid, have you rehabilitated yourself?
there are plenty of places to get off the trail along there. Just get started and walk until you don't feel like wearing. enjoy!
So, after watching the video, I came back here to say that I expected you to go the wrong way when you woke up... That seems to be a common theme here. Wonder why. LOL!
I'm sure these are posted elsewhere on wb, but here are a couple resources. I can't attest to their accuracy.

Sometimes I see both sides within an hour or so. Usual down hill first, then back up hill.
I bought a Big Agnes Seedhouse SL 2, two person tent, many years ago with the assumption that I would eventually get my wife into backpacking. That never happened, but I sure do enjoy having my pack...
The ATC has a handy interactive map that shows (among other things) places to park along the entire AT.
