Yeah, I hate the dudes that make you ask to pass —like it hurts their pride or something. They tend to be dayhikers that stick to the tourist trails, though.

Fox in heat maybe? They make some crazy, scary noises

I thought this rock was the Hangover on my first Slickrock trip. Turned around like a half mile too soon

Thanks for the report. It got pretty chilly last night... maybe enough to finally see some colors soon

Yeah, it’s exciting. Coyotes are relatively new to us and now they’re everywhere. We actually had our first confirmed cougar sighting in Tennessee in generations a few years ago in west TN. There was...
Yeah, but no breeding population in like 1000 miles. The idea of a cougar hunting a family of five... in woods that are chock-full of deer? Plus, if it’s 400 lbs... maybe he’s not hungry enough to...
Rangers probably file these sightings in the Big Foot folder

fun stuff! that's a bummer about the overcast on Leconte, though also a great excuse to go back
Mowich Lake is a long drive... lots of iffy gravel road where you’ll wish you were driving a big truck

There’s a camp host there. You Might just check in with them before you head out. From there it’s only 2-3 miles until you hit the Big Frog. Not sure on mileage otherwise, but postholer.com had good...
Another clue is that the trail splits off in the middle of a clearing. It kinda looks like it was old landslide on the south slope of the Bunion from long ago.

The spur trail’s easier to spot in the winter time. You can see the spur trail on the satellite imagery. It’s pretty easy to follow if you can find the start in the summer weeds.

It’s an overlook looking east from the Boulevard Trail. There is a spur trail, so maybe a sign. But I can’t recall

it's not a fool-proof method, for sure, but it still goes a long way. I've read that it probably has a deterrent effect on other pests as well. they usually attach by crawling up your shoes, the...
have you tried permethrin, yet? it works wonders for ticks and chiggers. I don't even bother with bug spray any more so long as have I permethrin treated clothes and a headnet for the no-see-ums.
A head net will come in handy. The mosquitoes aren’t so bad but other biting flies can be maddening

Is it really gonna make a difference? I suppose in some instances it’s not a dick move but an poorly reasoned move.
And no, my bleeding heart doesn’t extend to a parasite attaching itself to me
...
Dunno about the legality, but a dick move if you ask me, and futile.

Those crazy meese at CS37 have learned to climb the food cables, for god’s sake. Or there’s flying squirrels in the area—is that true or just a story I heard?
i would say the lesson from TNHiker's story is that some folks get into LEO jobs for the wrong reason
i lean towards the East, too, though there's definitely still some A+ ridge hiking over the Western half. Rocky Top, for example, might be my favorite vista.... can't think of many other...
I've been using RocSocs for a few years.
the popular Smokies campsites are overrun by mice as well. there's probably a mouse in your house somewhere.
