Hmmm. Where does a kilt- wearing, skipping hiker who listened to the same song all day (Big Bad John) fit in the record breaking scheme of things? :)

I loved it. And the book.
Uncle Johnny's (where I have stayed several times...2009, 2010, 2013) is not a hotel. It's a hostel. Way nicer than a shelter. Inside toilet. :).
I wore these exclusively in 2013 hike. Six months of comfort!
I don't want to participate in any wars. Win or lose. :)
I just bought the book on Amazon. Very nice read.
Boots and Backpacks: I plan on attempting a winter thru starting mid-Sept. Would love any advice you can offer from your experience on the AT in the dead of winter. Thanks!
I used RailRiders exclusively for my 2013 Flip Flop. Loved them.
HFM: Sounds like an adventure. I hiked the AT in 2013, a "flip flop" to avoid any hot weather. So what am I thinking about now? Yep, a winter hike, NOBO, starting @ Springer on October 1. Not...
There was a huge storm when I stayed there in 2013, and some people rushed us from the shelter to a local church. Glasgow is great!
I enjoyed the approach trail at the start of my 2013 thru....but to each his/her own.
. Montbell was great.
I love my Hubba!
No to waterproof shoes was my choice for my 2013 thru, and I never regretted it. But that was me....have you considered trail runners? Hee Hee.....
Seatbelt, Exactly my thoughts. It is just about impossible to know how hard it is without seeing it first hand. He is young, a strong runner....but I love ultra running, and found there to little...
I agree with LW.
The Trail is there, people are going to use it, and we all just have to be personally responsible. Any stated concerns over movies or books causing "over use" of a national park...
I kept an OCD-like record of my 2013 thru, because (please, no arguments about technology on the Trail...I didn't carry a phone!) my IPod Touch, an amazing 3.2 oz invention, had a Notes app. Every...
Thanks moytoy.
Freedom,
I (after a couple of unsuccessful attempts!) completed a thru hike last year, 2013. I did a "Flip-Flop", mostly to try and avoid the worst of the heat. Not sure it worked, as I had...
I own a Jetboil, a Pocket Rocket, a stove whose name I have long forgotten that uses those smelly pellets, and at least two other stoves that use the screw on propane tanks. ( I know, OCD, but I am...
Stealth, I couldn't agree more! Not at all hating on Wild, hell, wish I could write as well...but both of Jennifer's books really worked for me. Another book by a true genius, Jan Leitschuh (trail...
LW, I pretty much agree with you...but what is your thought on this? I carried a very light IPod Touch, which is not a phone, nor did it have any an Internet connection except in town on Wifi. It had...
I turned 60 during my 2013 thru hike, and realized that "me" at 25 was a lot different than "me" at almost 60. But it was a good and bad difference. Good, in that I was more patient and forgiving...
We have an illy only coffee shop here in a Grand Rapids, MI. The coffee is great! IMHO.
