Thanks for the article and the PDF conversion. That work scanner must be pretty sweet.
^^ Hey Serial howyadoin? :)
Adding my 2 cents: you absolutely do not need anything fancy or extra for 2 people. My (now) wife and I hiked the whole AT using a big 2L pot and probably the...
Make coffee again in the morning. I have to ask myself - why are you making coffee at night though?
Thanks for the advice. I have heard that traction devices aren't generally necessary for the PCT, but I'd rather be a little over-prepared then under.
The heaviest pack you should probably consider carrying on the AT these days is the 4.5 pound one.
6.5 pounds is pretty insane these days.
Why all the work? Just go with Lipton Pasta sides. Pack out some powder milk and you are all set.
Short gaiters are nice in general just to keep rocks out of your shoes and keep you socks clean.
I would recommend anywhere is the Smokies.

Thanks for all the great info!

I bought 50 handwarmers on ebay about 7 or 8 years ago. They are the HotHands brand that are only in plastic packaging. They're still good. We are still using them up gradually. I can't tell you...
My trip from Union Station in DC to Dahlonega, GA in '07 on Amtrak wasn't too bad. Only problem was the drunk guy they had to escort off in the middle of the night after he kept stumbling and...
Interesting! Would have been nice to see what protection other types of fabric might offer, things that hikers might more often wear.
My wife and I are starting after KO. We met on the AT in 2007 and can't wait to get back out there.
Has anyone had any experience combining trail runners with Yak Traks?
Since ULA is the clear winner, could I get some more thoughts on Catlyst vs Circuit? Did anyone who went with a Circuit for a PCT thru-hike (accounting for a bear canister) wish they had a bit more...
This is one a the few places that I would say is worth the .4 mile trek.
A bad day on the trail is better than a good day at work.
Never underestimate the your ability to resupply at gas stations.
Pike County :)
I have a used one for sale, if you like. Forest green, used 4 times at most and in perfect condition. (I want to get a 2-man winter tent instead for me and my GF)
Throw me a PM if you're...
Take this job and shove it, these boots were made for walkin'
This dude's gonna make it.
