I saw him in Vermont. Sure he made it.
Everyone was raving about this place so I stayed on my way through. I just wanted to share a different experience that I had to the rosy one everyone seems to have had.
I got in a little later...
I love that. I hate people who feel the need to correct people on grammar and spelling but that is so far of the mark that I want to help. The figure of speech is to 'err on the side of caution'.
I can't believe so many people who want to get close to nature on long trails in the wilderness are so happy to kill. Quite disappointing.
I'll be hanging my food.
That seems like quite a bit of gear for a 50ltr pack. Can you fit food in there with that?
If I saw someone killing mice, I'd have a word.
On a slightly unrelated point, is there much difference in the cost between buying your tickets in advance or on the day? I plan on taking the Amtrak a couple of times while in the states. Rail...
I use it for additional tie outs at the apex, so I only put them on when exposed to wind. They go through line locks but the knot in question is on the end to stop it slipping through said line lock....
They pick you up from North Springs Marta in Atlanta. If you get off the stop before there is an REI and a Target to get supplies if needed.
I'm using them this year. As others have said, really...
I have kelty triptease on my tent and I found it very difficult to untie when needed.
I read that a lot of rodents (squirrels in particular) hate spicy stuff. I'll be carrying chili powder or curry powder for meals anyway so maybe leaving that open will deter them. Could attract other...
My rain jacket was £3. Very easy to beat $99 for a vapour barrier if you ask me.
Flights can be done a lot cheaper. If you're looking to go straight into Atlanta then you'll pay a fortune. Get a flight to a common holiday airport on the East coast then get an internal flight. I'm...
There's a stop on the AT direct from Grand Central.
The lightweight camp towels don't so much absorb the water off you, as wipe it off. Technique is slightly different but a big guy can get pretty dry on a small cloth. As others have stated, it won't...
I love having my gear separated into compartments. I'm a bit OCD so I like the organisation.
I use a 20 ltr Event sea to summit bag for my sleeping bag or quilt, a 14 ltr sea to summit dry bag...
I plan on using my Tyvek footprint if I happen to stay in a shelter. I have the same pad as you too. The bottom is pretty heavy duty compared to the pads most people use (like x lites etc.) so maybe...
Completely unrelated but interesting.
When you're cold, your body stops pumping as much blood to your extremities to keep your core temperature up.
I read that women start doing that 2 degrees...
Do these work? I was planning on taking a can lid to thread through my cord but don't know if it's wasted weight. Do they have to be completely smooth or do they rely on the animal backing off...
Sleeping pad and sleeping bag laid out under the sofa.
Cheers! I'm a little worried I'm not posh enough to use my voice as a weapon. No way near Hugh Grant.
Bit unnecessary, I was obviously referring to towns. I'd like to occasionally email/skype my family, so sorry if doesn't fall in line with your idea of enjoying nature. Which presumably is not seeing...
On a slightly related but off topic subject, are there any internet cafes along the trail?
I'm not taking a phone with me but I don't know anyone in America anyway.
