I finished in 133 days with 22 zeros. A lot of those were overuse or rest days from only being a middle distance runner and enjoying some but not all towns. I did hike with people who did what you’re...
I think it is squirrels instead of mice and possibly via close branches. I had one get into my hung bag at Carbon River this year. Luckily I had my garbage bag on top of my pot and stove. My food bag...
Yep, they make their money off rafters. Seven years ago on my they I showed up on a weekend and could see who spent money and who didn’t. Great place to get s hot meal in a thru or weekend hike. As...
Curious as to why you picked the most popular and least wild trail in the Alps for wilderness camping. Especially considering the number of people with day packs being shuttled from hotel to hotel...
Nice report! Thanks.
Easy answer is the Whites followed by wherever you start. The Mahoosuc section is slow going as well as parts of Maine when it rains. The northern half of the 100 mile wilderness is not difficult.

Thanks for all the input. I am thinking of not doing a mail drop for a seven day loop and knocking a day of food off by starting after lunch on day 1 and just having breakfast on day 7.
Also...
Sb, thanks for the info on the snow and that Sunrise Grill won’t be open when I roll through.
Poor judgement
I’m almost afraid to ask but when you say snow how much are you talking about? Enough to need GPS to find the trail or a coating that adds to the views?
I’d guess mostly luck. I got one just after the six week notification period but it’s for the last week of September, I’m staying at at least one walk in site and I’ve got a couple nine mile days and...
Thanks SB. I’ll be back in Sept for Ranier/Wonderland. The coastal hikes and any melted peaks are what I’m looking for in June. I may take the rental car on up to BC for a couple days too.
Thanks that’s what I was looking for.
I’m looking for day hikes around Seattle that I can do the first half of June I’ll have a rental car for a week and could do an overnight hike if it’s worth it.I don’t have crampons or an ice axe but...
I’ll start with I don’t believe in absolutes. Nothing is 100% better or worse.
I carried an iPhone on my thru to double as a camera. It stayed on airplane mode and I carried paper maps. Now when...
When I hiked the AT I met a girl with social anxiety. She hiked with a guy friend she met but would not have said hi back to you until she felt comfortable around you. I’ve also grow up outside NYC...
I can’t say I felt isolated on the AT. I had lots of solitude during the day by design but camping near water source/shelters meant there were always people around. Then you add in day and weekend...
And we wonder why noro virus seems to pop up as people head into Hot Springs and Erwin. How lazy or tired does one have to be set up a tent in a cat field?
I hiked from Neels to Woody Saturday morning and saw more dayhikers on the trail then thru hikers until I finished. There was a hiker feed at Woody Gap and there were a ton of thrus around a camp...
To add on, I also budget for how long I think I’ll be out of work when I get back and before I can find a job. The last thing I want to think about when I’m hiking is how I’m going to pay bills.
If the weather is good and you get there early afternoon it shouldn’t be a problem. There are a lot of cheap hikers who will Nero in and out of town, but if it’s bad more hikers head to town and...
Dinner (and breakfast) are usually made on the ledge of a shelter by thru and section hikers whether they stay at that shelter or move to the next. Not much you can do when you’re required to stay...
Thanks. I assume any time in July or Aug is fine but busy (and earlier than that may be iffy).
I didn’t get Wonderlsnd last year so I did a Bryce Zion Antelope Grand Canyon south rim loop instead....
Yes, I’ll do a combo of tenting and hotels once I figure out the general plan. The car is for flexibility should I fall behind or get ahead of schedule and want to add something. Or if I need to...
