Broke a finger 2 wks ago on short hike to Springer. Seems like my balance is off when I've just started.

I have only tried Icebreaker and Smart Wool. Like them both a lot. Do not really think they are hotter than synthetic. Definitely more comfortable. A little bit expensive.

How do you find it if a bear carries it off? Do they do that? What if a bear knocks or carries it off a couple hundred feet. Can you find it in heavy vegetation etc.?

From whatbird it may have been a downy woodpecker. Call sounds very similar and size etc. The woods were full of them last week. I'm sure it had to be a migratory species. Did not hear this bird...
