A couple of weeks ago, we stayed at Boots Off, a new hostel on Shook Branch Road just south of Watauga Lake. The bunkroom is nice, with a curtain, a light and an electrical plug for each bunk. We had...
We stayed there about a month ago. We picked up our mail drop and asked if a cabin was available. They said they needed to get the bed ready and we could have the cabin in about half an hour. As we...
We had a very comfortable stay in one of the creekside cabins. Nice setup with a firepit where we socialized with other guests. The store had a decent amount of resupply including individual...
I second the comments on the Relax Inn. The night we stayed there, a major storm took out the electricity for about 4 hours. In the middle of the lightning, wind and rain, we heard knocking at the...
Talked today with a hiker who stayed there last night. They were generous with food, and they mentioned that the hostel was part of the church ministry but did not proselytize. His one complaint was...
Has anyone stayed at this hostel? How was it?
Or take a cue from Augusten Burrough's mom in "Running with Scissors" and use maxi pads.;)
Got it! Added AT Troll to safe senders list. Maybe that made the difference.
No, they aren't in my spam folder, or in my trash. Totally baffled.
I tried searching these forums for this issue and can't find what I'm doing wrong. My settings appear to be set so that I will get an email to notify me of a private message. My email address is...
1981. I had just moved to Hagerstown, MD. I read the old 2-volume "Hiking the Appalachian Trail" book published by Rodale Press. While driving to Washington, DC, I passed under the AT where it...
Maybe in October? Count me in.
Thank you, Rain Man! I didn't know about the site search operator. I went to Google and Googled it. Tried it out by typing "tent site:whiteblaze.net" and got a nifty list of threads with the word...
If you still have any HYOH stickers, I'd like one.
New, never used. Does not fit my external frame pack. Weighs 3.4 oz. Approximate dimensions are 38"x21"x10". When stuffed into attached stuff sack, dimensions are approximately 5"x4.5"x2". Very...
Sorry, I didn't mean to post twice. My computer has gotten weird on me twice tonight while trying to comment in these forums. Going to give it up for now.
That's the tent! Right in the middle of the trail, all rolled up in the tarp and fastened with the bungees. Come get it!:D
Looked to me like something that just got too heavy to carry one more...
That's the tent! It was lying in the middle of the trail, wrapped up in the tarp with the bungees around it. Shame on you! Come get it!:D
That's the tent! Ya want it back?
Oops, I got the wrong thumbnail. Let me try this again.

I pulled an old guidebook off the shelf, and discovered that sometime in years past, I must have explained the concept of a bear bag to a new hiker. I have no idea who or when. I do see that I was...
Thanks for the update! Was planning to stay and maybe do short term resupply at HH/Laurel later this spring.
I thought PB2 made too much of a mess and it tasted awful. I just carry peanuts. Easy to snack on and they can be added whole or crushed to rice or noodle dinners.
Thanks for all the very helpful suggestions! I think it's going to be hikershuttles.com and the Mountain Inn.
