There is ample parking at the 501 shelter. Stayed there last year while doing a section hik--had my car parked there. Good luck with the PA rocks.

I agree with SGTdirtman. I was there on 4/27/06. Was not impressed. Since I was hiking south--went on to rattlesnake mt. Good stream just before you start to climb.

I was doing a section hike betwen Delvers Fork Gap and Hot Springs in Sept. '02. Got stung twice, it really hurt. Can't, imagine being stung that many times. I hope he will be O.K.

I hiked that section a few years ago, best I can remember you have some good walking in that section and a lot of ups and downs like most of the trail. Very do-able in 5 days if you are in good...

They just said on the news Frances is the size of Texas. I'd say it's not anything to mess with. Being that large, it could cover a lot of trail territory!
