Quite right.
I would see it all the time when I hiked in Harriman in New York State.
I once found - about 1/4 mile off trail - a complete set of pots and pans around an old camp fire site.
Got the permit. Prep is still working - as it always should.
Walking three times a week. Now with boots and poles and 35 lbs. in the pack.
Food just about ready.
Clothes will be a last minute...
Thank you. I'll look today.
Thank you for the reminder - I went and checked mine - all good.
Going on a section hike next month.
I thought you could only reserve two weeks out?
My hike will be done during the week.
I put water bottles in the pack. No sharp edges.
The type I get from juice.
I'm doing about the same thing.
Run 2 miles and walk an additional 2 miles every day.
Plus throw in Soccer reffing on the weekends increases the steps - running.
I'm also putting about 35 lbs. in...
I did run into a hiker out there in July.
They were starting a thru hike that got closed out because of virus.
He - was with brother who did not restart - was trying to go as far north as he could...
Walking now with 30 lbs in the pack - for an hour. I have to start somewhere.
Before I go it will be 40 lbs and 2 hours.
Thank you both.
So it's less things to carry - bear hanging rope and holder.
It was closed when I went through a few months back. Nice to see it re-opened - but at the end of the season?
Thanks you - so it's carry 5 days of supplies.
Are there bear hangs in place at the shelters along the way in the park?
Easy to get water?
How is water sources and ease of getting up there in the Smokies?
Thank you - that looks like a pass on re-supply.
Best to carry 5 days worth of supplies.
From Fontana Dam to I40.
Then hitch back to Fontana dam.
Thank you.
I see posted on my maps they allow for horses on some sections of the trail in the smokies.
Does that halp with making the trail beaten down and a bit easier to walk?
How many days would that take SOBO?
I see that from Fontana Dam to Route 40 is 75 trail miles..
Not counting the ups and downs...
Elevations at each start point are about the same.
Wait - plans may change - hiking SOBO from route 40 to Fontana Dam.
How many days in either direction would that be - 7 or 8?
Gatlinberg resupply can it be done quickly?
I'm looking at a section hike 4 to 8 days. NOBO.
From Fontana Dam - which I just finished a one day segment to complete this section.
Hurt ankle last year on the trail.
Fontana to Route 40....
Interesting...
I'm usually carrying 35 or so fully loaded - 5 days on my section hikes.
I've used the hikes to lose weight - 10 to 12 for the last two hikes.
Takes me about 4 months to gain it...
Just saying - they are multi use.
I was in Costco yesterday 2/14/2020.
They had hiking pants on sale there.
$20 a pair.
Something similar to what I currently use.
They were a bit heavier in the material but could do the job. ...
I have a question about the horses allowed on the AT in GSMNP.
Does the trail flatten out a bit - where horses are allowed?
Like not the narrow one hiker path in a divot most of the time?
Too much clothes and extras in the pack.
Not breaking in the hiking boots / shoes enough.
