Thank you!!! So I am researching Davenport now, if we start there no permit or no required shelter stays heading north correct?
General advice, I am NOBO section hiking and getting ready to enter Smokies on next leg. My wife is interested in coming and willing to 'hop' past the smokies for now. What is best 'entry' point...
Silly question, I noticed online some shelter pictures have tarps attached to knock out the wind. They look more like they are set up not on a daily basis. Who sets those up and are any of them up...
Afternoon, yes I know it is NOT permitted. So do I even need to bring it? I see on the reservation page (which I already have mine) not many hikers coming through in next few days. I was told by...
Looking at coming through starting Sunday the 11th, starting at Fontanna and popping out at Davenport Gap by week end. In past how are temps/conditions usually. I am trying to fight locations to...
So we are planning on hiking from Fontana Damn through the Smokies and wanted to leave our car at the end (Davenport Gap). Is there anyone or a service that can drive us to Fontana Damn to start our...
Makes sense, so you have to make reservations at each shelter, each night ahead of time; but I assume let's say you have a bad day and can't make it to the one you reserved you just stay/camp at the...
So if you have to make reservations and sleep in shelters; do you need your tent for the Smokey section?
That's it! Thanks
Sorry, whats the name of the Shelter before Fontanna Dam that has a small shower house, and a phone charging station?
Sooo....In summary, it appears once you start at Fontanna it looks like you have to go around 30 miiles or so for pick up/parking?
Want to make sure I am not missing something, once I enter Fontanna Dam area around mile 166 and heading north. Where is the next parking/pick up point?
Thanks,
Great Answers guys, thanks for that!!! I'll probably be a 2.5 dayer then.
If we make this a 2 day hike, doable? Or pushing too hard and better to make it 3? I know some out there have done it in 1 day by noon, looking for more of the average hiker. :)
Thanks!!!
One of our fellow hikers might need a night in town tomorrow. If we get to or around deep. Gap what are odds of running into someone to take us into town or if there's another point where we might...
Also what about Albert Mountain bypass... Saw a Parking sign?
So for her sake who struggles either deep gap or we push to winding stair?
Georgia dry, we struggled. Hitting NC border soon anyone know water status from there up a few days?
On trail now, I know we can get my wife to pick us up at deep gap but what other points north of that as we will be going past deep gap. Mooney? As example.
No, sort of. Might need to communicate with someone down there when we arrive.
About 17 miles but not familiar with this section/trail condition, is it 'doable' in 2 days without pounding it hard?
I read there might not be any service at Dicks Creek, is this still the case?
Thanks Muddy, that's what I was looking for.
Thanks, I am assuming you have to 'arrange' ahead of time the shuttle. i.e. not running back and forth daily? :)
Any suggestions on this trip of a possible resupply point? Easy, close, accessible.
