The idea is that if you cook and eat in camp, the smells are likely to linger long past when you have eaten, so if you are sleeping there, you might get a late night visitor investigating the smell....
Hey gwb, I am planning a hike around the loop starting the 31st of august, maybe I'll see you on the trail!
I have the CT guthook app, which I have used on shorter hikes in the area with great...
Ah, didn't know you were looking for canister vs ursack differentials. Some people do prefer canisters over the ursack even if it is an option. (I am not one of them, love me some ursack action).

I LOVE my GG gorilla. It is incredibly comfortable and versatile. The mesh pocket in the front can store an impressive amount of stuff. The water bottle pockets on the side are voluminous and pretty...
Off the top of my head, I know of two places canisters are required: Rocky Mountain National Park, and the 4 pass loop trail near Aspen.

I find the setup of the hornet 2p to be relatively quick and simple. You don't have to do the Velcro loops unless you need to ride out a windstorm. Most of the time they will not be needed. Just...
That was what I was suggesting in the first place. I understand you have an axe to grind here, I am not saying you are wrong, I just think that it is worth looking at all options, under vet...
I agree on limiting exposure, but I think it would be prudent to have an emergency option.

Yikes, that could get pretty bad. I would say talk to your vet about possible sedative medications in case of thunderstorms. Otherwise you could end up with a dog sized hole in your tent... not to...
I'm using the seeker as a dirty water container. I filter into 1L Gatorade bottles, I think the wide mouths make filling even easier.

Sounds like it will be a great trip! My boyfriend and I are planning on camping in the winds this summer in July. I'm trying to talk him into a couple nights in the backcountry.

I would love to team up and hike some griz country, but I am out for this year. I'm committed to hiking the collegiate loop in early September with a couple fiends. But if you want to propose this...
I am betting you could wrap it up in any extra clothes/layers and bury it in your pack and it wouldn't freeze if the temp was around freezing. For a hard freeze, you could either take the filter out,...
IMHO, the 0.6 l is just way too small. If they offered a 1L version that would be worth considering. Also, if you read the thread on the befree over on BPL, there have been a couple instances of...
I used my befree filter with great success this weekend. There really isn't much of a need to set up a gravity filter. I could filter a full 2L hydrapak in a minute or so. I ended up using a couple...
I just bought the filter piece only, plus the 2 liter seeker bottle. I am going to hike grand gulch this weekend, so will need additional capacity. I am thinking a large smart water bottle. Looking...
I would go for epic bars over Krave bars for the exact reason of added sugars. The epic bars often have dried fruit added, but they do not have additional sugar. But for me it is a flavor thing....
This probably won't make any difference to you, but it appears it is the storage sack, not the stuffsack that is outsourced.

I was aiming for a 5 day, 4 night completion of the WT last September. I was in pretty decent shape, having backpacked regularly all summer in the Rockies. The WT is relentless. It's upupup or...
There is an evolite plus that has similar R value to the neoair xlite, as it has the same type of insulation in between the foam sections.

Whoops, I meant klymit pad, not bag.

If you are getting the Klymit bag, make sure it is the insulated one. I really like mine. Very quick to inflate and comfortable.
As for the bag... I would skip the liner and just get a warmer...
I would personally skip carbon fiber. If you have a failure in the wild, aluminum is a lot easier to repair/stabilize. I have the double rainbow and I love it! I highly recommend the clip in liner,...
Understood! Check out tatptent. They have a wide assortment of reasonably priced tents. A lot of their 1p tents are actually big enough to fit two in a pinch, so are quite roomy for one. Particularly...
