It seems cyclic. There’ll be a group that’s hyper active, and then they’ll get bored and drift away and there’ll be a down time, and then a new individual or group will arrive and they’ll liven...
I have taken a stove out of the box, and found that discoloration. But, it came with a note that explained they test a few at the factory, and mine had been tested. The good news was, it worked!
I’m glad I had it done, and that I’m past the really painful part. The PT is going well, and I’m so excited to get out there backpacking. I forgot to mention to the therapist today that I need to...
I know this is an old thread, but it’s right on topic. I got a new knee a week ago. I’m doing the rehab dutifully. I’m wondering what kinds of things might be different. Does the new knee change...
. Rather than stakes, could you take a plastic grocery bag and fill it with sand, and tie that off where stakes would be?
According to my ATC calendar, today is the anniversary of Earl Shaffer completing the first thru-hike of the AT, in 1948. I’m not sure exactly how one celebrates, but it seems worth mentioning. Yay!
I don't know if Hammock Gear has a "showroom," but it would be worth calling. They do have a lightweight kit. I have one of their regular kits, and have used it a few times and found it very...
For me, I finally felt comfortable once I got a 2.5 thick pad that was 25 inches wide. The thickness wasn't so important as the width. It just worked better. I would also suggest you try a hammock....
This is an excellent review of a horrible piece of writing. I won’t call it a book.
This is great! Thanks for making it available.
You might manage to find someone near you, who would not only like to use it, but might go on the shorter trips with you.

Happy birthday Whiteblaze, from one of the introverts. I might not be so introverted, as much as not saying “Me, too” all the time. I never thought of myself as a refugee before, but I guess I am. ...
I backpacked in Yellowstone this weekend. The high was maybe 80*, the low 42*. There was rain, hail and a thunderstorm. Things were squishy. Last year, I backpacked until the end of September, and...
I’m so sorry about your situation.
If you fly into the Tetons, as Venchka suggested, I recommend you hike in Yellowstone, too. The scenery in the Tetons is astounding, but Yellowstone has some...
Thank you.
The ZenBivy sheet arrived today. Thank you! Pringles
I’d love to get the sheet. I’ll pay shipping and more. Pringles
I’ll take the Thermolite. PM sent
My compass is from 1986 or 87. My Leiki’s from 2001.
I've heard of folks who hike with their bag draped over their shoulders, to help the bag air out. That might be a way to keep moving, while still giving your bag some air time.
You can get to approximately 1% of the park by road. 99% of the visitors never leave the parking lot or boardwalks. Those numbers may not be exact, but they are pretty close… at least that’s what...
That looks great Odd Man Out. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for the great trip report. I like the picture of the lake cobbles, at Au Sable Point East a lot, and the picture of Coves, as well, thought they were all nice. I’m sorry you couldn’t eat...
