Understood. I'm definitely not espousing sleeping with your food as the solution to much of anything. I just see it as a step above the horrific bear hangs that are so often visible along the trail.

Same. I like the concept, but it will take some convincing for me to go down that road after seeing that happen.
I have been on the fence about purchasing a canister for some time now. The...
The Ursack I'm referring to was one of their Kevlar sacks. Chewed or not, the bag was shredded and covered with bear slobber, and the contents were spread out on the ground.

For what it's worth, I've seen an ursack bag shredded first hand. That was in the spring of 2018. The company did provide a replacement, but that's not much consolation IMO.
Sort of? I think Ruta Locura is the son's company and that TiGoat was the father's? Something like that. My impression was that the father passed away and RL carries a few of TiGoat's old products.
Instead of one major vendor like Golite, we now have dozens of small cottage industry companies that create constantly evolving designs. It's a whole new world out there. As far as big (ish) names,...
I found a discussion the other day about adapting the Schnozzle bag to fit the old Thermarest valve. Something I need to try soon. It would be much less infuriating to use it.
I'm also interested in a lid when the time comes.
LOL - why would you need to 'stay in a shelter most of the time'?
Thanks for the link though. Another option to consider.
Nice - I must have skimmed right over that one.
Unrelated... Just checked the Dollar General website and they're not showing any 9.25 oz Vienna Sausage cans. I'll still stop by on the way home...
Is that from the BPL thread? If so, I did read through that and appreciated all the testing that had gone on. In particular, the point that in general a cozy hurts rather than helps. My questions...
Interesting. I've noticed very little heat escaping around the sides of the pot with this setup.
Good observation. I was trying to remember recently if the old Pur (Katadyn) Hiker could be frozen.
I was wondering if there was a joke that just went over my head, since it's posted in 'Hiking Humor'... Definitely confused.
For sure re the heat damage on a higher output stove. Not a concern on a typical alcohol burner, but with a canister burner at full chat it would be a real problem.
It would be nice to have...
My tigoat bivy has chest zip only and I'd prefer going back to a side zip. This really is pretty much exactly what I had in mind. Thanks again.
Wonderful - thanks for that!
For a few years, I've been pleased with the TiGoat Ptarmigan bivy. Recently a couple of people have asked for recommendations, and I no longer know what's really comparable on the market. There are...
To clarify - I wasn't worried about the general efficiency of the stove or the water cooling rapidly afterward, just trying to keep a cold breeze from contacting the aluminum directly and soaking...
If the comparison is between the average mediocre hanging of a bear bag to sleeping with the food next to you, I'd endorse sleeping with it. Properly hung or a canister is a different story...
Thanks - I'll take a look at the tomorrow.
Thanks!
One more curiosity question... Have you considered and/or experimented with putting anything on the outside of the inferno pot to eliminate heat loss from a breeze? Given the relatively...
I like that lid!
By the way - have you run across a decent cup that fits well inside the Inferno? I've got a titanium mug that probably holds 10 ounces and the XL3 nests inside it perfectly. ...
You need to keep all of these filter types from freezing. Doesn't matter if it's Sawyer, BeFree, etc.
I generally keep mine in a pocket in the winter. Ideally one that's in an interior layer if...
Agreed.
For the record, this is the visibility we had a little while later in the way up Madison...
