    Trekking pole tip ends?

Not sure what tent uses poles with their tip ends down into the floor...most are tip up into a sleeve, grommet, or pole. Tents that have tips down have the poles outside the tent.

Thoughts? Upper Bald River Trip Plan

Tipi- when you mention crossing 11, crossing 8, etc. Is that numbered coming from the BMT heading north on Kirkland or beginning at the road heading south?

Thoughts? Upper Bald River Trip Plan

Thanks, Slugg. I'm considering a back up plan in case there is a lot of rain the week leading up to the trip assuming the Bald River crossing could get tough at high water.

What cheap tent options are available?

Problem with Durston is every time they go on sale, they sell out to people who then double the price selling them on eBay. I just ordered a Lightheart Gear Solong 6. Not the cheapest, not the...
  13. Far Out or old-fashioned paper guidebook? Opinions?

I'm in the same camp...use copies out of AWOL's guidebook and a NatGeo map. I stare at a screen all week and the reason for me going out is to not look at one for a few days. The couple times that I...

ATC takes official stand on bear canisters

There are definitely places where a suitable tree or trees is near impossible to find....or at least near enough to your campsite to be reasonable.

ATC takes official stand on bear canisters

As much as I don't like the girth and weight of a cansiter, I have started carrying one on trails in GA, NC, and TN. It is just so convenient and saves so much time. Not to mention being a good seat!

    Parking at Watson Gap

Yes, I parked there this past Sunday night, hiked north to Jack's River, looped over to Hemp Top on Monday and road walked back to Watson Gap. Road walk was misery.

I got one a few months ago. It's my favorite piece of clothing...I feel like I baby it too much, just because it was so expensive. But I LOVE wearing it and it looks good in town and on trail.
