Decomposition of Charmin Ultra (not even some cheap thin backpaper TP):

So I was wrong. It takes about 1 month...
I don't think any hikers bring any heavy winter gear for any part of the trail. But if you want a nice warm part but not too warm for 12 days then maybe Idyllwild to El Cajon Pass. You should be able...
Yes your comparison of throwing thousands of plastic bottles in a river is completely analogous to burying some paper in the ground (roll eyes).
That is not a matter of buried vs packed out. That is a matter of stupid lazy hikers who are so freakin dumb they do not have the intellectual capacity to know how to simply dig a hole. I will never...
You are suggesting that toilet paper decomposes at more than 2 months if there are other holes with toilet paper in them within a few miles?????
You are an idiot. Decomposition takes far longer un-buried than buried. Decomposition buried of WOOD PAPER takes 2 months. Studies have been done.
Me leaving won't make you taking your dog on the PCT any less illegal.
Yes I did. Including all the irrelevant stuff you posted about Afghanistan and how hot it gets in Iraq.
My Whitney is not on the PCT. It is off the PCT. And you can't dig a hole in granite. So you pack it out.
It takes no time at all. Even someone from Texas could do it. See:

https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/pets.htm
Now why don't you try it...
I think you started it with "even though I know I'm not allowed to and will be breaking the law I'm going to bring my dog with me".
Well you want to take wildlife on a trail for hundreds of miles where that wildlife is clearly specifically prohibited so yes, I agree, you are an inconsiderate as-hole. I don't believe your honesty...
I was actually reading the PCTA's leave no trace page where they stated that packing out your toilet paper is required and that's why I came to post this thread (only to see a recent thread asking...
Oh yeah, and another thing, I assume the PCT hikers the year you go are just going to have to step in dog sh-t for 2,700 miles?
And your dog is trained not to sh-t around water sources which in...
Dogs are not allowed on several hundred miles of the PCT. Does this not end the conversation?
If TP was made out of dirt there would probably still be people insisting that it be packed out.
I was going to respond in the poop thread but this "leave no trace" principle is so ridiculous I want max exposure.
Now you people understand what toilet PAPER is made out of right? I will give...
My post is completely irrelevant to this thread but I can't let this go.
I have skied in CO dude. Along with every other state that has a ski resort. I also can very easily go to resorts and look...
Dude, I'm a life long skier who has ski bummed for a decade. CO does not get huge dumps in any month. Unless you think 3 inches is a huge. That's why I only ski CA, UT or WY.
I've lived in Mammoth Lakes for years before. I know how lovely Septembers are. I also know how quickly snow kills. Every year we usually have several people accidentally ski down the back of Mammoth...
I'm also not sure hiking over 13,000 foot passes in the Sierras in Sept/Oct (you won't finish in 1 week) is smart considering that they have received feet of snow before in both months (albeit Sept...
Costa Rica should be a low snow year this year. I think they allow people to walk around there too..... If you want to play it even safer go to the Alps. Those guys never get any snow.
Telluride is Southern CO. They have 259". Durango is even more southern. They have 231". (As opposed to the 600"+ of the Sierra resorts now). These are good numbers for them but CO resorts averages...
The CDT is fine. Look at all the snowfalls at all the ski resorts along the CDT. Like 270" compared to 650" in the Sierras. Rockies are having a normal year which is almost half what a normal Pacific...
