In that part of VA if you really wanted to you could hike the creeper trail and take an easy day into Damascus...though this section isn't tough.

You'll like the terrain in VA better for sure, and you can't beat Grayson Highlands for views/ponies. It'll probably be warmer but in my opinion it's worth it.

I too use both. I have a 3L Camelbak and a 1L stainless steel bottle. Keeping the stainless bottle allows me to:

yeah, rain is bound to happen...that's a given. I just don't trust the weather reports that you get online because they're never for up on the mountain.

In 1993 up by Washington, DC we had almost four feet of snow come down in about a day and a half. That was a crazy winter for the whole eastern seaboard.
