No approach trail
Forgive this post if it's a bit long but I have a story to tell. Back in 2009 I took my first walk on the Appalachian Trail. At the time I was a heavy/daily drinker. (Beer my weapon of choice). I was...
I received confirmation on Friday that my leave of absence has been approved! Looks like I'm definitely giving it a shot next year.
The company I work for does not have an official sabbatical...
Right now that's the plan. Still waiting on the job to give me the "official OK" but it's looking like they're going to give me the time. I'm not necessarily looking to partner up as I'll be on my...
Planning to start February 12. :)
I'm thinking of starting Feb. 12 and trying to be done in the last half of June. I need to be back at work by July 1. Hope to see you out there!
I'd sooner take my chances with the gun. HYOH! :D
This is why a large caliber handgun in grizz country is a good idea.
I'm planning a trip from Neel gap to Fontana Dam and am considering my resupply options. Obviously, NOC is a good resupply point, but I'd like to split the difference with another resupply between...
This community has been extremely helpful to me and is my most valued resource when it comes to trip planning. :)
I spent the night up there July 4th and it got down to 56 degrees. ;)
So far this year I've done Erwin to 19E and over the fourth of July weekend I hiked Amicalola falls to Neel gap.
I'm planning on I40 to Hot Springs over the Labor Day weekend.
I was on Roan a couple weeks ago and it was chilly. 38 degrees when I woke up that morning.
I took a light down jacket and was sure thankful I had it. Not only did I use it while breaking camp,...
I tried to read through this thread but was unable to figure out if Smokey the bear was still causing issues.
I plan on hiking The approach trail to Neel gap over the fourth of July weekend and...
STICK,
That looks like a pretty nice blade. I enjoyed your review and for the weight/blade length, I think it's a good solid choice. I may pick one up to add to the collection.:)
The benchmade...
This is probably a stupid question, but why do they have to kill the bear? Could they not just relocate it?
Sounds like the guy who got bit was the one who made the mistake by getting too close.
I got my copy in the mail yesterday and watched it. Not bad but not really helpful either. I already knew what the ultralight crowd was using. I would have liked to hear/see a little more about...
My guess is that karoberts is referring to the removable lid on his back pack as the brain.
I think I've heard it called that before.
The human brain weighs 3 pounds. I learned that from Jerry...
I've been considering going cookless for section hiking as well. You could feasibly do it with just power bars as they are high in nutrition and calories.
I'm not sure how much a week's worth of...
I hope I never run into a bigfoot on the trail. I believe that might end my hiking career. :-?
Jeez, it's bad enough to think about a bear outside your tent...
dla,
I was in need of a new camera and was pretty much looking for the same things you are in a camera. After a lot of research and pricing I settled on this one. Panasonic tmc-ds1 It's last...
Yeah really Chris. In your first post you said "about a pound" and now you're saying about half a pound. You also aren't including guylines and stakes for the tarp in that weight which are included...
The contrail only weighs 24oz. You'd be hard pressed to find a tarp-bivy combo a pound lighter than that. And definitely not for $190.
Keep your eye on Steep and Cheap for anti-shock Lekis. I've seen them a couple of times this weekend for $60.
As for the bag, a lot of folks recommend the Campmor bags. They really are a good...
