and can't camp between 321 and the dam road (watauga dam)........
that area had enough bear activity and human interaction that they had to tear
the shelter down as a result........

i'll take a guess and say this was Cosby Knob shelter...
this shelter and russell field shelter (and i would imagine others, i just know specifically about these two and bears) have
"resident"...
and that's right where the trail crosses...
but, i would also stop in at the hatchery and touch base with them....
ive parked there for a weekend but not sure about how two weeks would be...
i would leave it in the parking lot near the hatchery.......
i didnt realize that sleeping with one's food while in the great outdoors was a right.......

this is what has prompted my hiatus of the last couple of years...

i've used the REI version of the chair zero---basically same thing but less expensive...
and while it does sink a little bit, there are ways around it.......picking a firmer spot of ground......
i can attest to the Smoky's and some parts around there-----but it's fairly easy..
the trail is so beat down that there's pretty much an obvious groove to follow...
and keep eyes on blazes...

the rangers will occasionally make rounds and check stuff around there, but
if you want more eyes on your vehicle, standing bear or some other...
