Remember, in a tent you have the entire Earth for insulation beneath you. In a hammock, you're letting it all hang out ;)
Bottom insulation is, in some ways, MORE important that top insulation.

Let's compromise and say winter is for short, relaxing backpacking trips with friends. 3 day packs, some 'anti-freeze', and a campfire in the snow :)

We're looking to do a first section hike, Springer to Woody Gap, on Thanksgiving weekend.
Any recommendations regarding shuttle service from WG to Springer (or at least FS 42).
We'll be a day behind you. Who are you using for a shuttle?
Pulling together my first AT section hike for Thanksgiving weekend.
Fall is a great time for hiking in the South (properly equipped). Less heat, less 'traffic', and great views.
BTW, if...
