Honestly, I found the BMT to be about the same from end to end. There were a few climbs here and there that got my attention, but pick any 50 mile section and I'd say they're about the same. It's...

Maybe. But I've seen a lot of (seemingly) homeless people asking for help on sidewalks and street corners while people hurriedly walk past or roll up their windows and pretend they don't see them. ...
I wouldn't be a happy camper if somebody stole my food either, but am fortunate enough that I could go resupply. I've been lucky enough in my 48 years never to know the desperation one must feel to...
And thanks for this recommendation, as well. I walked out of the woods and had an Uber pick me up in less than 10 minutes.
I did NJ and NY about a month ago, and I spent a lot of time in NY thinking, "Man, this would SUCK if it was raining" for that very reason.
The relentless rocks will indeed end, but NJ and even NY are still pretty rocky in my opinion. At least more so than the southern half of the AT.
I'm leaving for NJ in a little bit and will be there for 14 days before I enter NY, and NJ isn't on the list.
I always repackage commercial meals the way you describe, and have often thrown an unused meal or two into my gear box and brought them on my next trip. Even repackaged in the freezer bag, a few...
I did that. Those are the people I called (and listed above) who aren't running shuttles right now.
I've been trying to hire a shuttle for October 5th to pick me up in NY near the CT border and take me back to my car at the Mohican Outdoor Center in NJ, but I'm struggling to find a shuttle driver...
Completely agree. It was fun to go back and look at the fitness tracking and I also like wearing it when listening to music while hiking because I can leave my phone in my pack and not have to get...
Yup. For the last 70 miles or so, there aren't any blazes on the trail - just the little green BMT signs with arrows on sign posts at some trail junctions. When you come off of the bridge over Big...
I just finished the BMT yesterday and was looking forward to my "victory" photo in front of the terminus sign when I crossed the bridge over Big Creek, but there was no such sign (at least not that I...
I have a friend who started a flip flop in Harper's Ferry a couple of weeks ago and is finishing up PA, and it mostly open. Pine Grove Furnace SP and the such have been closed and hitching has been...
Cool place, and you could hike there by jumping on the BMT where it intersects with the AT just south of the Fontana marina. It's about 14 miles and the BMT goes right through the lodge if you...
I'm going to need to be picked up near Kent and shuttled back to my car at the Mohican Outdoor Center in NJ. According to Gambit's shuttle list (which is excellent, btw), there are three people who...
I've been section hiking since 2009, have completed a little over 1300 miles, and have done them all in a continuous NOBO direction. The first few years I did 5-7 night trips, but since then have...
I've left a car there a couple of times and haven't had any problems. It's a small lot right on the highway next to the bridge over the Chattooga, on the SC/GA line. There's enough traffic moving...
An advantage to heading nobo would be that you have a much more grand finale on Cheoah than you do at the southern terminus. The southernmost part of the trail is kind of boring without much to look...
My bad, I meant the Winding Stair Road trailhead.
You could start at Wallace Branch and hike the 5.5 north up to Cheoah, then back down again like starting Springer from the lot on FS42. There were several rafting places along the river next to the...
Thanks to you for taking the time to put the guide together! The other one was so outdated that when we did the Georgia section last month my buddy joked that we should be write a new one when we...
Water was everywhere, all of the marked sources were flowing and there were other unmarked sources, as well. We finished on Cheoah and then just took the trail back down to our car on Winding Stair...
I just got back from hiking the Bartram Trail on Monday, and can tell you my buddy had his phone (with Verizon) and had service at the beginning of the road walk. He pretty much had service (on the...
Hahaha all true
