True and if you wrap your stinky hiker shirt around your food bag, it is safe......according to some on here, although I have never tried it personally.

I really wasn't trying to "win" anything. I guess I just wanted to point out that existing without a shower is definitely a possibility, although today it is not a desirable one.

17 years, Not "on the trail" but I never had an actual "shower" until I went to college. Grew up without indoor plumbing and we took what we called "bird baths" in the back yard one at a time on...

It was closed in 2008 to hikers, not sure for how long. If you went ahead and hiked across anyway, they would arrest you and you got a nice clean comfortable one night stay in....jail.

It says on the pkg that it is sugar cured. They don't usually do both do they? Just curious.

I thought they were for thru-hikers, so section hikers can get them also? Or maybe they are referring to thru-hike attempts which turn into a section hike?

I lay a map out on the dining room table with notes attached to it as to my whereabouts[approximate] for each day/night. I also call wife[who rarely hikes] every day at least once so she can update...
