Thanks. Seems like a lot of places aren't very pet friendly.

OK cabin fever is killing me. The fam and I have gotta get out. (dog too) One plan to do some hiking and camping on the Batona Trail here in South Jersey. Another plan is to go up to the Delaware...
Looking for recommendations for decent kit. I see REI has some listed for hiking. I'm searching of course but would appreciate suggestions.

Well I'm looking for designs with floors so I can try to make one out of a regular tarp material before moving on to the more expensive fabrics.

I'm searching of course, but there is a dizzying amount of info and designs out there. I'd like to find a good design with a floor that uses hiking poles (one or two) so a tree isn't necessary. I...
Going on a 1-2 night hike with my stepsons scout troop. Details are not solid yet but we will supposedly going on a sobo hike to HF about 15-ish miles or so. So I'm gonna want a good map of area....
Only been here about an hour. Didnt hike here though. Here with the wife and stepson. Went through the John Brown exhibit. Stopped in hiking shop but forgot the name already lol. Told the lady about...
Whoa, whoa. I was seriously thinking about hiking this when I go to Gettysburg PA in a couple of weeks. From Caledonia to HF is 60 miles? I thought it was more like 35 or so..... I REALLY need a good...
Thought this was really cool.

Nice. I like the "Body Bag".
I like the very first design as well. If I can find an easy design that has the inside completely covered I'm all for it. Now what kind of tarps are these? Regular store bought tarps?
NICE. I'll have to experiment with that last design....
To sort of piggy-back on the other thread with a member looking for tents, I'm not against doing a simple tarp shelter either. I'd like to see some good setups, using rope/paracord, hiking poles, etc...
Well I'd say my budget for a tent/shelter is up to 60-75 bucks. I'm going to start a new thread about tarp shelter ideas. I said that cuz I'm not against tarp shelters at all. Just looking at options.
Ok I may get flamed for this question/comment, but where are the tents/shelters for us poor folk? Am I looking at sleeping under a tarp?
Watching this thread closely..
Also I am surprised alot of these shelters etc don't have floors. Sleeping directily on the ground maybe ok in ideal conditions but what about when the weather ISN'T great? And bugs, critters etc?
I would like to find a small tent/tarp/shelter that could hold up to two people. Simple and lightweight of course. I may want to try an overnighter for my first AT hike so I would like to get some...
Hmmm I see now thats a pack for ultra-lightist. I'm not sure I want to go the ultralight route first starting out.
That ULA Camino looks good. The load weights seem a little light though, however I really don't know about this stuff yet so it could just be my perception. Is 40lbs good for a pack that size?
Well if it counts, I took a roughly 45-min hike through Belleplain State Forest (Lake Nummy) at a church picnic today. ;)
I like to try to purchase US made goods when I can but besides the more tactical gear like Kifaru and Spec Ops, I don't really see any us made packs. Any suggestions?
Oooohhh.. I'll have to take a ride up there here soon... Better leave the wallet at home though... might spend too much...
