+1 on what people have said (especially the PSU hat).
You are pretty light. You are at the point (like me: http://lighterpack.com/r/c5r5rf) where its gonna be big $$$ to get much lighter.

Saw some people wearing bedrock sandals on the PCT and thought they would be perfect. Just googled them and found out they were $76. https://bedrocksandals.com/products/classic
I've always used military wool glove liners (http://www.armysurpluswarehouse.com/wool-gloves-inserts.html). You may want to go to your local army/navy store to try on so you get the right size.
Just saw this article: http://www.businessinsider.com/solar-eclipse-2017-how-to-take-photos-of-the-eclipse-2017-8
Amtrak has service from Pittsburgh to Harper's Ferry.
Harper's Ferry, WV (home of the ATC headquarters) and Front Royal, VA (northern end of Shenandoah National Park) are both under 4 hours driving time from Pittsburgh. 2 great places to get on trail.
I hammock'd that section in 2015 and there are lots of places to hang. I went through in early July and the bugs (mosquitoes and those biting flies) were pretty bad. If you stay on the PCT and don't...

+1 for Darn Tough. I use the "Darn Tough Men's Micro Crew Cushion Hiking Socks" with trail runners and dirty girl gaiters and that combo has worked well for thousands of miles.
I like dirty girl gaiters https://dirtygirlgaiters.com/.
Just saw at Altra is making their own now, may give them a try https://www.altrarunning.com/trail-gaiters/trail-running-gaiters
I only ever ran into 2 and it was while hiking. They were extremely friendly and helpful. Telling me about trail conditions and upcoming water. They were both concerned about who I knew of that was...
I hommock'd from I-80 to Cascade Locks.
I remember yelling along with my hiking partners "this is not a trail!!".
I hammock'd a lot of my 2015 pct thru and actually switched back to my tarptent moment (which i used in southern california) in Oregon because the mosquitoes were so bad I would wake up with dozens...
I liked Mio until I had one leak in my food bag. Red everywhere.
My go to while on trail is kool aid singles.

+1 at it being "fun" (but that's coming from someone who was 39, bald and an engineer when I did my AT thru)
Ah, memories. I started 4/15/12, what a summer. Have a great hike.
Ironically, or maybe not, I use an old Aquamira bottle.

You could always head up to the Allegheny National Forest and hike some of the NCNST. Its a nice hike and about 10 deg cooler than south east PA.
Hey, Sandy of PA! Its ranger, I met you on my 2012 AT thru. You, me and One camped together one night. Not sure where..
Anyway, No need for either especially the 2lbs 9oz bear vault. Ugh that...
Just another opinion... I agree with the don't give up just postpone for a few days. Figure out your pack, I thru'd the AT and PCT with an Atmos 65 and it was too much pack (except when carrying 2...
Picture is from the dutchware site. What does the free end of your whoopie sling look like? You may be able to attach it to the tree hugger in the same way.
