Northern Ga in the Suches area had a lot of flooding and downed trees. Can't speak specifically about the trail but from what I saw yeah, there will be problems.
Tellico area had similar problems.

Left how many times did you eat out on the trail blank. I am a section hiker, is this per week? All sections to date?
Waiting for the weather. Hoping for April. Too cold up there now for a Florida man. Covid does not figure into my plans at all unless of course it shuts things down again.
Got it, thanks.
Are there restrictions in Shenandoah on where you can camp? Must it be a shelter or I can hang a hammock where ever looks comfy?
Could you advise two parking locations about a week walk (80-100miles) apart in this area? IM if you would rather not post it in this thread.
Thanks

It looks like Ga. NC. Tn. will be opening up on the 29th and 30th of this month. Has anyone heard otherwise? Any idea if this will include the trail?
Va. won't be opening until 10Jun. Further north...
As a hunter/hiker myself I would think this idea to be quite impracticable. Maybe if your hunting gear was a slingshot or a throwing stick and you simply went for targets of opportunity you could...
"Gators are ambush predators. They will lunge out of the water for a meal but I can't imagine them running 10 yards up the bank for something. The sand is nice and in some places it does go up...
Until the ATC disinfects the trail I ain't goin' back.... ;)
Nobody in the park service wants to confirm any sort of mountain lion presence. To do so would bring in the endangered species act which is a whole new universe of pain in the ass to deal with.
Ran into something similar last year. Maybe 40-50 of them. Some sort of spiritual self realization thing. Learning self respect, reliance, I dunno. Just struck me as weird. My paranoid friend who was...
I have photo copied pages from the AT Guide book to carry (Weight ya know) after I finish the section what if I give them to another hiker who could use them? Is this ethical? I see little difference...
A few. usually attributed to fatigue, sometimes ice or mud. Never had a serious fall but I have pulled out of a hike due to bad conditions that could easily cause such.
I just carry a bottle of fireball. It can do wonders in overcoming fears and even common sense.
As some who hikes and has built his own ebikes I need to add a few things.
Ebike laws vary from state to state. Pedal assist (you have to pedal to make it go but the motor helps out) is not always a...
It is not needed every year so the option is get rid of it or find a spot to store it. (that much plywood takes up a lot of room) Most get rid of it one way or another. Then a few years later they...
Hammocks are far easier to deal with when making camp after dark. Comfy too and faster to break camp in the morning.
It ain't for everyone but if the weather is nice I like to fall asleep with no...
I have stayed dry and comfy in high winds, snow and heavy (sometimes sideways) winds in my hammock. I also use hard lines (paracord) to tie down, same paracord I hang it with. Haven't had any...
Law enforcement will NEVER give you permission for deadly force. It would open them to massive amount of liability to whatever might happen. The most they *might* say is to do what you need to do to...
I wouldn't go without one. Insulation and cushioning is very important to me.
Hikers tend to hit the sack early. Wait just a bit, most will be sound asleep. Then walk over to the overflow area and set up for the night.
I did the northern end of GSMNP 2 weeks ago. One shelter...
Exhaustion. If not then melatonin.
Never brought the melatonin, exhaustion is pretty much fail safe for me.
So what do you think, those gawd awful noises in the night, the bark being ripped off nearby trees. Do you think a bear is in the least bit intimidated or is it like ringing the dinner bell or maybe...
