Well, flights and such...
Going crazy, any suggestions to kill time? I start on 4/6.

I’m all set, thanks all.
Costs more to mail than to get another one. Plus I live close enough to Maine to drive but if not, simpler to do what you’re doing!
Quick tip because I found something kinda cool. Don’t know where I heard it but getting a bag for your pack rather than tying up all the straps is super helpful. $5 at IKEA. Fits my Osprey Atmos...
I’m landing in Atlanta on 4/6 - 9:20am. I would like to arrange for a shuttle and split with folks if possible. I will get to North Springs MARTA and will need to arrange for canister fuel. I’m...
I’ve decided to not wait until I retire. I’m lucky enough to have my wife’s support so I’m quitting work for 6 months, hiking, and finding a new gig when I get back. I don’t know what my health etc...
I’m packing all mine (4 total) and leaving them with someone to mail. When I’m 150 miles or so from the drop point, they’ll get in the mail. I’m not fast so that’s likely 10-12 days of lead time. ...
I’m starting on 4/6 - you’ll have to judge for yourself if I’m worth a follow. I think I am! :)

Thank you.
I use a Uco Air... rechargeable via micro USB. No batteries to swap. I changed out the strap it came with for a piece of stretch cord because it fits better. All in, 1 oz.
That’s how I’ve felt on my prep hikes but those aren’t months long :)
Attaching myself to people won’t be this introvert’s undoing :)
Yeah, transitioning from work (I’m quitting my job) to hiking without bringing along the 9-5 grind mentality will be tough. Good advice, thanks.
Thanks - if the ones I have wear out, I’ll certainly remember this!
Thanks very much, putting a pin in this post.
Yeah, with two little ones at home with my wife, I’m concerned. Will definitely be doing phone calls, video etc. I know I’ll be loving the hiking but I also know I’ll be missing them!
Apologies, I’ll run all my posts by you for validity checks in the future.
Howdy,
Aspiring thru hiker here - starting 4/6 if all goes to plan! Counting down the days / hours / minutes at this point and getting very excited.
I've thought a lot about mental prep for...
I'm using the ZPacks kit... no experience with Ursack though.
Found a pair of Marmot Precips for $80 shipped so I’m going to try those. Had a $50 gift cart so only $30 in the end. We’ll see how they work. Worse case, I mail em home :)
I wouldn't say I'm terrified of heights but I definitely get the weak kneed feeling on drop offs like the ones you describe. My advice would be to not let it hold you back - go for it! You can do...
Thanks!
Mine are aluminum... do you know about about the springy inserts inside the poles... those are getting a bit soft on mine. Poles themselves are scratched up but as good as ever!
I think I’ll have them until I ditch my winter stuff... don’t know exactly when that’ll be but I’ll likely pick up a pair of shorts as an alternate bottom layer with my hiking pants at the same time.
