Hey folks,
It has been quite a while since I have posted on here. I was gearing up for a thru-hike last year (Nobo 2017) and ended up moving to Alaska to work in one of the many national parks...
Hey folks. It looks like I'm not going to be thru hiking the AT this year as I planned.
I had a great job opportunity fall into my lap working in the Kenai national forest until this fall. Hopefully...
No ticks in va after a few day section, no permethrin or big spray.
Hey folks... I am trying to figure out a flip flop hike for this year. I am thinking of starting in southern Virginia in about a month and hiking north to Katahdin. This would put me in Maine around...
We are getting hammered here in southern Va... was planning my miles today based on camping on a ridge line tonight and it started storming like holy hell. We made it into town and are currently...
Due to some problems with work and other logistics I will not be leaving until early-mid may. I am trying to make the same timeline but will see where I'm at when I make it to harpers. If it's too...
I use wal-Mart brand knockoff crocs. They are extremely light compared to crocs and cost 7 dollars.
Is anybody doing Springer-Harpers nobo, then doing Katahdin - Harpers sobo?
I always use earbuds, however these fanny packs are pretty cool  https://www.jammypack.com/
I was planning on starting early march, but logistics and finance dictate I will not be able to start until mid April. I'll be starting April 17th. See you guys at trail days I suppose!
Currently loading up my MP3 player for my thru hike with Metallllll.
I'll be taking yak trax, short gaiters, and trail runners.
Hey,
I am planning a trip to the Mcafees Knob for early next week. Has anyone been out there recently? I know SW Virginia got some snow recently, but temps will be hitting the 60s later on this week...
Finally got around to registering my hike.
Anyways..
March 28 (my birthday)

No trail name.
See you all out there!
Venchka. I apprecat your advice. I will try this. Not "too" worried but high quality hiking gear to me is like having a sports car to me... it will do great things for you if you treat it right, but...
Thanks for the feedback... I layed it out on the bed and most of the bag floofs like it should. There is sag on the side closest to the zipper. Is this normal for this bag?
I just opened my WM Alpin lite (same bag but a little wider). I had it shipped to an alternate address because I was moving, and was not able to pick it up for almost 3 weeks. I am worried that it...
Anybody have experience with this puff? I have been eyeing it and they are on sale (around 80$ off retail)... I have read mostly good reviews but have yet to talk to someone who owns one. I am...
If I can get the time off work I would love to join you guys. I have been looking for an excuse to get out and do this hike for a little while now.
My walmart poles lasted a good couple hundred miles before i trashed them a few days ago. My biggest complaint was that the straps slipped once wet, and the twist lock system is not my favorite. They...
I ended up placing my order. I went with Lumbar pad, hip belt pockets, shoulder pouch, key zip pouches, and shock chord lashing for the trekking poles.
Now to play the waiting game....
Anybody been out to this area recently? What is the water situation out there right now? I am heading out on a section hike in this area next week.
Some great advice has already been posted here. Keep your head up and get out there when you feel ready.
Also, don't ever consider informed gear choices to be a waste of money. Even if you don't end...
You're in good company. I am in the midst of planning as well. The hardest part for me is working out logistics and things that tie you down to life back home. I have to worry about bills, taxes, car...
