We have left our car at Unicoi Gap twice for several days and never had a problem :)
We ended up with the Gossamer Gear packs too. Awesome is all I can say.

I like your list so far. Just got back from my first hike on the AT in Georgia. My pack weighed in at 47 lbs. Brutal. I'm looking into much lighter gear now. I also have my eye on that ULC pack....
