I don't know if it's fair to say he only originally intended there to be three. I read them way back before he started writing more of them in the 80s (and did read some of those, maybe all). They...

I have one each of the pliers and scissors models. The pliers model has a small Swiss army style scissors on it too. So you'd think it would be the best of both. But I find I use the stupid little...
One thing I've noticed is that while everyone asks "Why?", the tone is different. Other hikers, whether they've done or want to do long distance hikes or not, tend to ask, not literally "Why?" but...
See you at the hostel, we're there the same day. My pack is flying with me though, bad enough I have to check it. Shipping it ahead of time would've driven me nuts. It is packed and ready except...
Well I don't actually know what I have then. I got a Kindle 2 when they first came out. That one was Sprint for sure. But the screen broke somewhere around that fall... covered by warranty (And...
Ah, my bad, Wikipedia says:
"The original Kindle 2 uses CDMA2000, for use on the Sprint network. The international version uses standard GSM and 3G GSM, enabling it to be used on AT&T's U.S....
No, there's not, I had that thought too. You can transfer notes to a computer via USB, but I don't think there's any way to get things written offline off of the Kindle without access to a computer.
Yes, you can upload PDFs from a computer to the Kindle via USB, or even just email them, but Amazon does charge a small amount per MB for the email service.
There are two models of Kindle, one...
I am bringing my Kindle. The battery life claims are accurate, I believe it would make it through a month using it a couple of hours a day, as long as the wireless is turned off (very important). ...
Came from here. There are profiles for other popular long trails too, not just the AT.
I start in under two weeks. I'm still stressing about gear and about getting my life in order before I go (but it helps a lot with that that my wife is staying home taking care of things). But I...
Thanks for answering, that makes sense.
Good luck with your hike, hope we meet up out there. Though you're starting sooner and faster than me.
And hey, that's the original point of this...
Thanks! It's not really a trail name, but it's been my online name for 18 years.
Interesting. If they're not supporting you financially or legally, what was the benefit to enlisting now...
Hey Tevo, are you saying that you're getting time off from the Navy to hike, AND that they're approving (or not) your schedule for the whole trail? That sounds crazy to me! Are you hiking your own...
Building up stress so I have something to release when I'm out there.
Abusing gear so I start with a bunch of either already broken or newly replaced and untested crap.
Sitting behind a desk...
Tell me about it!
My blog is at http://rumsey.org/
I usually update it only infrequently (It hadn't had a post since October until the one I just put up), but I plan on regular updates while on the trail.
I took it and didn't give them mine. That last page asks for an email address if you want the results of the survey mailed to you. I just checked "No" and submitted it with a blank, it worked fine.
Going out two nights this weekend around where Cleveland National Forest and Anza Borrego meet, partially on the PCT.
Got my full pack loadout set last night (pending changes from this hike, kinda...

Violent crime in the United States is at a 30+ year low and is steady. Of course, specific cities may differ, but what's actually up is media coverage of crime. This makes people think crime is up,...
I do NOT recommend this, the keyboard is really not designed for this (punctuation is very annoying in particular) and there are some other disadvantages, but since you asked, here's the high level...
I plan on writing (short to medium) blog entries from an iPhone. Some other smartphones have physical keyboards, which might be better, but an iPhone is what I've got.
I am pretty tech savvy, but...
Computer Programmer. I make video games. You know, those things keeping kids (and adults) from going outside. Sorry.
