I think you might have problems with condensation and a wet sleeping bag.

Probably is one somewhere. A better question is, why would you want to carry a 44lb load? Rather than look for a new pack I would take a serious look at my gear, and try to cut the weight by a half....

Take a look at Six Moon Design tents, they're not too expensive and really light. I have that sleeping bag, you'll need a warmer one. The insulated Big Agnes mats can't be beat, the Thermo is ok but...

I would do an Iron Mountain/AT loop. You could preplan the distance or just play it by ear, the trails parallel each other with many points to cross between the two.

As a runner I'd say a stretch after hiking each day will do the most good, but anything is better than nothing.

Sounds like your problem is more of a lack of air circulation in the back area. A properly fitted and well designed pack should have an air space between it and your back, if you cannot reach behind...
